Ketotic hypoglycaemia

Does anyone know much about ketotonic hypoglycaemia and how it's diagnosed?

My 20 month old has has a vomiting bug (well we are assuming) twice in the last 2 months and both have required hospital stays for the low blood sugar. This time around her sugar dropped as low as 2.5 at one point. She's not eating much and refusing to drink much but she stopped vomiting for the most part on Sunday - she has had maybe one vomit a day since by the nurse said the sugars being so low could cause her to vomit too. None today so far and we are home again I'm just worried about it happening again.
They did a hypo kit of blood tests in hospital but said it will be a while for the results to be back.
The doctors were surprised both times that she'd only be vomiting a couple of hours and not days at the sugar levels she was first presenting with.

This was a suggestion from my Google search but only found it after we were discharged - obv I will ask gp next week but not sure would it have been included in the hypo kit.

Hello,

did you have any update on this? Has it happened since? My daughter has had a few episodes of this too

Hello, also just wandering if you had an update on this? My son had exactly the same symptoms and we ended up in hospital for a week over it. Terrified of it happening again!

They lost the hypo pack .. she's not had a vomiting bug since touch wood but has had low ish blood sugar with virus but our gp isnt for taking any chances and we get sent to a&e for fluids and anti sickness meds at the first sign of it. They do keep finding keytones in her urine though despite the fact that general speaking she eats and drink really well unless she's sick

Hi,
My little girl has just been diagnosed with Ketotic Hypoglycemia. She had 5 episodes between 5 months and 3 years old to get the diagnosis unfortunately. Some of them were just with a cough or cold. It has been a really tough journey but we finally got referred to a specialist who were incredible and within 24 hours of the appointment we had a letter with care details and a huge supply of emergency regime.
Until the diagnosis we bought a blood sugar monitor for home and tested her every morning when she was poorly and also if she didn't eat properly at night. We also made sure she had a supper cereal or milk and again as soon as she woke up, then sugary drinks when she was poorly. It isn't ideal but it helped us show when she had low blood sugars. Keep persevering and hopefully you will get the diagnosis. Touch wood we have managed it since January the longest without a hospital trip!
