Are puffy sleeves going away 😪?

CoinsinaJar · 28/04/2023 13:30

Going away? They're not even arriving at my house. Dreadful things.

GoodnightJude1 · 28/04/2023 13:32

Not arriving here either!!!! Ghastly things!! (On me anyway…I’ve seen others that seem to pull off the look well)

MissLucyLiu · 28/04/2023 13:32

Love them!

emmathedilemma · 28/04/2023 13:39

YANBU
ditto frilly type skirts on dresses. i don't need this much fabric in my life!!

DejaVoodoo · 28/04/2023 14:08

I don't mind a puffy sleeve here and there; it's nice to have variety.
However if I did, I just wouldn't buy or wear them 🤷‍♀️

My problem is that they seem to dominate the shops, here in Dublin anyway, for what feels like several centuries now.

Sorry, yes, too flippant of me.
It is annoying when you can't but things except in a style you don't like or that doesn't suit.
I'm glad we finally got to the (almost) end of "skinny" jeans and trousers after about 20 years or so! Just couldn't wear them and there was rarely any other choice!

TomatoSandwiches · 28/04/2023 14:14

I concur, would much prefer bell sleeves instead.

usernameV2 · 28/04/2023 14:16

I just want a bit of choice, I've never got the hang of online clothes shopping and the shops are all so samey. I'm 58, they make me look like I'm in a pantomime

Yes, hate frills too.

Ditto, those short sleeved dresses where the sleeves are ‘floaty’. Just too much fabric.

Wide leg jeans and trousers look excellent on tall, slender people. Not so much anyone else.

Sulusu · 28/04/2023 14:22

Puffy sleeves and floral prints on everything can get in the bin.

cannot wait to wear this dressfor my best friends wedding this summer!

That is lovely

tailinthejam · 28/04/2023 14:27

Puffy sleeves and I do not get on. They look ridiculous.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/04/2023 14:32

Tiered skirts - I pick up what looks like a nice frock and it has one or two blooming tiers . I'd look like a reject from Little House On The Prairie .

My Mum used to sew an extra tier onto clothes "to give you more wear from it" but usually a completely different fabric
#scarred for life from tiers

ShakeYourFeathers · 28/04/2023 14:50

I also hate puffy sleeves

Unless it's boiling , I need the option of a jumper. Yes I know I can wear something underneath but I like layers I can easily put on and off

Totally agree. Went shopping for a dress for my aunts milestone birthday today. Everything had either puffy sleeves or tiers. I just wanted a simple dress, structured at top and flowing below, a line or skater style.

Well I eventually found one dress in an acceptable colour. (Good thing too as it was the only colour that dress came in)
Everything else looked like it was from a historical reenactment, my grandmother's nightie or so skintight i'd be showing Everything I've got.

They must be popular, they're everywhere for several years now. Frills, puffs, tiers, flowers. What happened just nice clean lines, a simple dress, knee length. And not ankle length either.

Same age as you OP and relatively short and fat. I would look ridiculous in them . And all the flowery frills - they remind me of a milk maid fancy dress !

LimeCheesecake · 28/04/2023 16:07

Puffy sleeves were ok for times you don’t need a layer over the top. But how often does that happen in the UK? It rains, it goes cold, coats and knitwear need to be added. I’m sick of feeling uncomfortable walking somewhere because the puffy sleeve inside a coat sleeve is all too much.

emmathedilemma · 28/04/2023 16:28

You're right @usernameV2 but now you mention it, i'm not sure i've really seen anyone wearing them! Who is buying these dresses??

MrsWojadobakowsky · 28/04/2023 16:38

And waists that are either just below the boobs or half way between them and the actual waist. I want some dresses but not with puffy sleeves and a so called waist that gives me a belly that I don't have.

Yes!! The shops are full of them but hardly anyone seems to wear them. Do people get them home and realise they don't suit them at all?
