HCP's brother viewed my LinkedIn page

For several years I've been having laser treatment for rosacea, microneedling etc by a medical professional who directs his own medical centre in a major European city.

Today, I had a notification on LinkedIn and recognised the surname straight away because it is of Turkish origin (and I'm not living in Turkey!) and this man is the double of his brother who treats me.

The only possible way he would know my name would be via the medical brother, meaning a serious breach of confidentiality. I can't think of another explanation.

I didn't view the man's page on LinkedIn. Deliberately ignored it.

Not sure if I should raise this at a future appointment.

Is he involved with the business? Could he know your name by booking appointments/emailing invoices etc? Otherwise it is a huge breach of confidentiality him knowing your name to search and view you.

HungryHungryHaesten · 27/04/2023 22:36

Are you absolutely sure it’s his brother?

Heroicallyfound · 27/04/2023 22:37

What are your security settings though? Does he need to know your name to look you up? Could it be a coincidence e.g. if you commented on someone else’s post and he saw it and clicked on your profile? Does he work in a similar field to you? Seems to be a bit of a jump to a big conclusion.

WarmButteryCrumpets · 27/04/2023 22:40

The name might be the Turkish equivalent of Smith or Jones though... And lots of (middle -aged?) men of the same nationality might look alike. I wouldn't jump to conclusions.

I would however start a conversation about families next time I dad him, see if you can get him to say his brother's name...

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 27/04/2023 22:51

I'd just ask him outright if he knows x Surname. Not in an arsey name but more of an "oh hey! Do you know..." If he says yes say "so weird, he searched me on LinkedIn! Wonder how we know each other" and if he says no say "ah so strange! He said he knew you!"

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 27/04/2023 22:51

*arsey way

Homewardbound2022 · 27/04/2023 22:53

No, the brother works in a totally unrelated field.
He is the spitting image of his brother.
No mutual connections and I don't post or comment on other posts.

I've clicked on all sorts of random people on LinkedIn and social media with no particular reason or prompting by my sibling. Sometimes you just find yourself stumbling around. LinkedIn encourages it, kind of.

catinthesunshine · 27/04/2023 22:56

Have you viewed the LinkedIn page of the medical professional who treats you? Does he have ‘people also viewed’ turned on on his page (which he shouldn’t as it causes issues like this)?

Truestorypeeps · 27/04/2023 22:59

Off topic, did you ever try Soolantra cream? I find it amazing. I know what works for one, doesn't always work for another, but thought I'd mention it!

hellywelly3 · 27/04/2023 23:05

Sometimes doesn’t Linkedln show you people who have been to the same locations regularly. So if you’ve been visiting his brothers hospital and he has too it might suggest you.

InSpainTheRain · 27/04/2023 23:12

It's doesn't necessarily mean that his brother discussed you. You could have been suggested to him by linkedin via some connection. I often find infet recommendations for people I may know buy sometimes don't.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 27/04/2023 23:35

What do you think his motive is?
