Removing embroidery from garment

Posting here for traffic.

I bought a second hand school blazer which has embroidery on (right colour blazer, entirely different school). The problem is that the embroidery seems to go right through the garment, which is lined.
Normally I'd use a stitch ripper on both sides and keep teasing out threads but I can't do that on this.

Any ideas as to how to make it work?

Can you get a patch of the correct school logo and stick it on top of the old one? Removing machine embroidery is almost impossible without damaging the garment.

JanS unfortunately not - it doesn't come as a patch, and it's a completely different size/shape.

I don’t think you’re going to be able to do this and leave no trace. The place where it has been will look messy.

Could you add a patch pocket?

KirstenBlest · 27/04/2023 17:12

Could you post a photo of the right side and back of the logo please?

JeannieAlogy · 27/04/2023 18:06

OK, I can't sew so adding anything is literally beyond me.
The back of the logo cannot be seen because the garment is lined and I can't get inside the lining. Dodgy photos attached.

Looks as though we're going to be stuck with a mess :(

You can iron on a patch or pocket on top of it, you don’t need to sew to do it. Just use hemming tape or dual sided fusible fabric between the jacket and patch / pocket.

savoycabbage · 27/04/2023 18:12

What form in the new emblem if it's not a patch?

Also, is the lining purple??? This has nothing to do with it...

KirstenBlest · 27/04/2023 18:13

Thanks. I think that there will be some sort of interfacing on the back of the logo.

I'd have a go at unpicking it with a stitch ripper, and have done so, but you'll need to be careful not to damage the fabric, and it will take some time. There will be threads to remove.

You could open the lining carefully and remove the logo from the back, then sew the opening.

You could use a permanent marker and colour over the logo.

I saw this a while back on YouTube. I think you can buy the device on Amazon, but that would probably defeat the object of the exercise. In the comments, someone says that they used hair clippers successfully - might be worth a shot!

KirstenBlest · 27/04/2023 18:30

You might be able to remove the back of the logo with a razor.
I'd definitely give it a go.

If you open the lining somewhere discreet, your stiches when you sew it back up won't show.

JeannieAlogy · 27/04/2023 18:50

Thanks all - you've inspired me to try to gently snip a few stitches to get inside the lining.
I'll update if I succeed!

You might find that the inner side seam of the lining, on the same side of the body as the logo, is the best as regards the repair not showing
