Chickenpox vaccination

My ds 10 had chickenpox vaccination as a baby but no follow up booster. Both my other dc not vaccinated now have cp. Does anyone know whether ds still has immunity? Or should I expect another sick child soon.

He won't be covered if he only had one dose.

If he gets it, it'll probably be mild.

Thanks, so he could still get it but mild, presume he would be contagious if gets it as well. Dd1 had it 2 weeks ago, still not all scabbed over. Now dd2. Was hoping ds might avoid it!

My toddler caught chickenpox 3 months after having had one dose of the vaccine (before she could have the second dose), I don't know if it would have been more severe if she hadn't been vaccinated at all, but it was certainly bad enough.
I'd prepare yourself for the possibility that they will get it.

Odds are he's covered, but maybe not. Could you get him an appointment for the 2nd dose? It can work after exposure but I've heard people on here say there are long waits even for private in some areas.

One of my DC had the vaccination (single dose) 8 years ago and has been exposed several times to CP and never developed it. Seems very variable from these responses.

GordonBennett345 · 27/04/2023 12:43

I think it can be serious to get CP as a young man so I wouldn't risk one jab only.

His immunity might be getting naturally boosted anyway though, when those around him have the disease?
