Is this a sign a period could start or something else?

My 10 year old dd has been very hormonal the last couple of weeks. Easily tearful and grumpy. Mood swings galore.

She’s also been complaining of hot flushes.

dh thinks it’s a chance her periods could be starting soon.

I think it’s too early. She doesn’t even have breast buds yet.

We will get in the stuff she needs just in case but it would be interesting to know

Could be
Might not be

My neighbor started at 9 :(

Helpful…

I guess we will see. I hope not. It’s hard enough being a kid without having to deal with periods in year 5

My dd was 11 and tiny when she started. Girls start so going now.

I was 15!

I’ve been trying to remember how old I was but I can’t. I do know I was in secondary school though.

We are lucky here as we have middle schools so first school 4/9

Middle school 9/13

High school 13/18.

Worsester.

So set up for this and the teachers are so well primed. Sad starting so early but what can you do but what you are doing op

Sux2buthen · 26/04/2023 22:19

Not intentionally unhelpful, but nobody here or anywhere can answer that. So yes, it might and it might not be.
Get the stuff like you said and wait and see, all you can do👍🏻

Wowwellokthen · 26/04/2023 22:20

My dd was 10 and hadn't developed in other ways.

Username24680 · 26/04/2023 22:23

@Soubriquet Definitely make sure you have supplies in for her just incase. I don’t have any experience in raising daughters and I can’t remember specific symptoms I had myself but I do know that it was when I’d just turned 10.

Used to teach year 5 until two years ago and it’s much more common to start that age now. Was dealing with a girl starting every other week. They were normally chuffed to bits ❤️

thebaneofmylifeisacat · 26/04/2023 23:56

Why are girls starting so early now?

My gran born 1900 so old was 17
My mum was 16
I was 14

Dds were 11 and 12 each.

B interesting to understand why! Or if it's fact/anecdotal

PinkButtercups · 26/04/2023 23:58

My aunt was 7.
Could be but you won't be sure until it starts.

CaramelicedLatte · 27/04/2023 00:35

It’s got a lot to do with not being as malnourished in childhood anymore. This doesn’t mean girls are obese, it means they aren’t literally starving.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 27/04/2023 00:39

DD didn't start until she was 13, but I put together a pencil case containing Sanpro, spare knickers and wet wipes as soon as she started showing signs, so she would be prepared.
