Socially awkward- does anyone else do this

for some reason I am completely incapable of chatting to people at school pick up/drop off. I think it’s because I hate “small talk”.

However I am friendly with several parents at the school and am chatty with them in other situations. Arranged meet ups etc.

But when it comes to school I will chat if they approach me, but I will literally NEVEr instigate standing near someone or start the conversation. I just find it so socially awkward and painful!

They must think I’m barmy! Chatting one day and acting like I don’t know them the next!!

Does anyone else do this?!

I hate it too! I feel such pressure to talk yet I really don't want to. It's all such nonsense talk that I can't be arsed with

I find it difficult too, but I do try and at least say ‘hi’ to acknowledge I’ve seen them, so they don’t think I am ignoring them sometimes. I don’t try and initiate a conversation though, sometimes I just can’t do it.

Oh I know. It’s general chit chat. I can’t really do general chit chat!! I’d be happy if someone ask me to debate the death penalty or something😂 but just chatting about the weather, or what TA is pregnant…I just don’t care.

Im actually amazed by how people manage it, because I just get a big mind blank. I’ve no idea what to say.
