Low Standard of Living in London

Does anyone else feel that London offers a low standard of living for those who move there now?

If you bought a house in the early 00s or in the 90s then London must offer a great life. But for people starting out in the city now everything is just so expensive. How on earth do people on normal salaries survive? My dd is a teacher in London and the money goes no where, let alone buying a place to live.

I guess it depends what you want out of life. My friend is a teacher in London, he loves it there but he's happy living in a HMO and doesn't want a house and kids. I think he pays £800pm all in.

@yawningyacob I agree it’s becoming increasingly difficult to live in due to the cost of housing.

I saw an article this week about primary schools closing as there aren’t enough children in central London to fill the places.

Who is going to buy all these multi-million pound family homes?

But what do you do when you’re 40 and have no savings or anything to your name?

London is awful to live now.

I say this as a londoner all my life.

One of my colleagues on a decent salary has decided to give up and go up North, she can't even rent her own home on a salary circa 35k. She's a woman in her late 40s for crying out loud.

The entire system is broken and needs resetting.

I don't live in London and I don't have anything to my name. You deal with it.

This isn't really London specific, is it?
