Notice how all of a sudden we're not all in it together ?

Someone in the UK must accept that they are poorer otherwise inflation will stay persistent, the chief economist of the Bank of England has said.

Someone will have to get poorer to end runaway inflation, says Bank economist

Bank of England chief economist Huw Pill made the comments while speaking on a podcast.

Erm, the workers?

Just a wild guess.

Whycantibetangy · 26/04/2023 08:03

Is it me? I’m already poor. Do I win a prize?

PollyPeptide · 26/04/2023 08:07

Someone in the UK must accept that they are poorer otherwise inflation will stay persistent,

OK, it's me. Has inflation dropped now? 🤔

NotRightNowNo · 26/04/2023 08:08

Someone else obv😒

Easy for him to say on £300k or whatever his salary is. We've all got ourselves to blame, especially those asking for higher wages just so they can eat, get to work and heat their homes Hmm

That's the utterly infuriating part of the cost of living crisis. People's lives are being made so much harder by all their bills going up that they can't even cover the basics, or even if they can, they have no disposable income so they can feel that they have a life worth living. Yet, the highly paid people who make all the decisions that affect millions of ordinary people are telling them to put up and shut up. Angry

BarbaraofSeville · 26/04/2023 08:12

Plus, when are they actually going to accept that putting up interest rates, and hence mortgages, won't actually reduce inflation because it's driven by external factors causing increases in the cost of essential items that people can't buy significantly less of.

There is so much to unpack here. The obvious fact saying "someone" instead of "we" is just confirmation that anyone who thinks the UK is in any way an equal society is a bit short on thinking power.

But it's said against a backdrop of a society that has repeatedly chosen to be poorer in the snark hunt for blue passports.

Them and us ? Us and them ?
