Hi, I'm looking for recommendations for an adult private ADHD assessment in London. He has had a GP assessment and referral but the waiting list for the NHS service is over a year.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Not in London but I've recently had one online using MyPace. Initial consultation was £360

Psychiatry-uk.com was recommended by my son's therapist. They do adult and child assessments

Currently a 6 month waiting list but that's not bad as some of the private providers have closed their waiting lists as there are so many people wanting to be assessed!

Placemarking.

Even private providers seem to be full at the moment

aberlot · 25/04/2023 21:03

I used Berkeley psychiatrist and got an appointment within 2 weeks. It's cost £825 and if you want meds you have to pay for them initially and follow up appointments.

Bundlebee · 25/04/2023 21:23

Thanks everyone. He'll check these recommendations out

@aberlot was that a F2F or virtual appointment? Did you have to fill in all the questionnaires?

Virtual; I was sent a few questionnaires by email prior to the appointment.

Dd went to Clarus Private Health
free initial consultation
£899 for diagnosis
follow up monthly while on meds which also had to pay for
They referred to to nhs after stabilised on meds 5 months after diagnosis

Plantgeumstoday · 25/04/2023 22:49

Was during pandemic so was also virtual which was great as they’re at other end of the country to us

Starbucksbasic123 · 25/04/2023 22:53

Brace yourself. I’ve just spent around £1000 for the consultation then each month the medication is £200 plus a consultation fee for each appointment. I started this process in October. You will be pinged from the NHS to private back and forth as they need to access your medical records plus get an ecg, bloods and blood pressure measured. It’s obviously worth it but private is not easy either but if you can afford it and you are determined then you will get the right care. I’ve just experienced many tears of frustration along the way and I recognise having the option of private healthcare is super fortunate but it’s still arduous. Nuffield health referred me to a specialist in my area although everything was done remotely aside from the ecg, bloods etc. Good luck and I hope you get the right diagnosis and treatment.

Starbucksbasic123 · 25/04/2023 22:55

That’s where I was referred via Nuffield health. Still remote consultations but I didn’t mind as it’s relaxing going through it all at home.

Blueroses99 · 25/04/2023 23:00

I was assessed by Clinical Partners a few months ago. This was private (through insurance) and I only had to wait 4 weeks from referral to assessment.

IsThePopeCatholic · 26/04/2023 10:31

I’ve been looking into private assessments. Some of them last up to 4 hours, others are little more than an hour. Did any of you feel your assessment was too brief?

Not at all. We covered everything in the DIVA which is the structured diagnostic interview for ADHD in adults. That together with the forms that I had sent back gave enough for the diagnosis to be made. The form that DH filled at home took absolutely hours for him to fill in but he was able to give a lot of information which helped.

As @aberlot said, it’s a structured diagnosis which has to adhere to criteria as per the DSM so spent ages gathering school reports, filling out forms etc and sent them off.
Was followed by an hour structured assessment.

Meant to say, also had to undergo an hours general assessment prior to all this to exclude other causes.

expensive but well worth it.

mintich · 27/04/2023 13:30

For those who paid privately, how much did you pay in total including meds before being sent back to nhs?

NorisM · 26/07/2025 21:21

Hi @Bundlebee , I know this thread is a bit old now but I just wanted to share in case it helps someone. I honestly can’t recommend Private Psychiatry enough. After feeling completely lost in the system and waiting endlessly for help, finding them was a turning point. The team really listened, the assessment was incredibly thorough, and for the first time, everything started to make sense. If you're still looking for answers or feeling stuck, please know that the right support is out there. This made such a difference for us.
