What random thing makes you love where you live?

I live in a large village. We have the usual Facebook groups with people moaning about dog poo and kids playing, but there is also a lovely community spirit.

There is an old man with Dementia who lives in the village. He is fiercely independent and insists on going to the local shops to get a paper everyday and often gets lost or confused.

The whole village seems to look out for this guy. Everyone knows him and where he lives and points him I the right direction then posts on Facebook to let his carer know where he is and what direction he was going at what time.

Kind of melts my heart a bit.

That old man could be my dad.
He too lived in a village. When he started wandering people would often bring him home, and even put him bed when he was found at 1am! He is safely in a care home now but we felt very lucky that people who knew him looked out for him and helped him whilst we were trying to get things in place.

The downside of village life is everyone knowing (or thinking they know) your business though. I was happy to move away, the rumours that went round sometimes were infuriating.

There is a man in my town who sits on a roundabout when the weather is good and has banners cheering on Emergency Seevices, carers and the NHS. He started in lockdown but has continued. If an emergency services vehicle goes by he stands and applauds them. People always hoot and wave to him. It really makes me smile whenever I see him.

At night I can see a beautiful lit up church and moonlight reflecting on the sea
