Keep falling over - a clumsy coincidence or something to worry about?

I've fallen over 3 times in the last year. I know that doesn't sound a lot, but considering the last time I fell over before this was when I was a child it seems like quite frequent for a healthy young adult...

Each time they have been outside on concrete, I tend to trip on something and fall down. I fell over today while walking my dog, and now have a bruised and grazed knee, grazed hands and somehow hurt my shoulder whilst falling down. I don't really know what I tripped on.

Should I be concerned or do you think this is just a coincidence and me being a bit clumsy?

I'm 31 by the way, so not elderly or menopausal (as have just read this can be associated with the menopause)

Have you had an eye check recently?

weaselwords · 25/04/2023 13:28

Do you wear bifocals or varifocals, as they make me trip up things?

clumsymaybe · 25/04/2023 13:30

I'm shortsighted and wear contact lenses, I had a recent eye test so no issues with that

It might just be confidence. I had a similar thing where I fell over three times in about 6 months, but it's not happened since so I don't think it was indicative of anything other than being a bit clumsy.

NuffSaidSam · 25/04/2023 13:32

*coincidence!

But confidence probably helps too!

marmitegirl01 · 25/04/2023 13:40

I feel the same. 3 times in past 6months and while each had a reason - slipped, got tripped up accidentally etc I am worried. Years ago would I have stumbled or not fallen over ? When does falling over become 'I had a fall? 😱

Any ear problems op? That can cause balance problems

MothBat · 25/04/2023 14:25

Improving core strength can help stop a trip turning into a fall.

clumsymaybe · 25/04/2023 14:31

No ear problems. I would say I have pretty good balance.

I'm wondering if it could be low B12?

Maybe this is too obvious but what is the condition of the pavement like around where you walk your dog?

Where I live the paving slabs are frequently really uneven and in poor light it's easy to catch your shoe on the edge of an uneven or broken slab!

Whatcouldthisbeplease · 25/04/2023 15:02

On the medical side of things, make sure your blood pressure isn't high.

DustyMaiden · 09/11/2023 23:40

I fell over many times was B12 deficiency.

What footwear were you wearing?
