What will happen to our City Centres?

So many City Centres in the UK seem to be a mess these days. Lots of empty boarded up shops and fewer people visiting. So what is going to happen to them? Will they generally become worse and worse with only the poorest and people our drinking in the evening going there? Or can they be regenerated?

In the end. With online shopping etc they will just be entertainment sectors and or food services etc

The traditional high street model is history books

They already provide entertainment and food. So we should knock down all the empty shops?

Or convert them. Into something more useful or destroy the traditional high street model and rebuild the city centre where possible.

Why focus on an outdated business model unless the rates will be vastly lower to encourage new businesses

I think the 15 minute cities are meant to tackle that problem

I need to study that perspective

I would imagine there will be a return to some of those buildings being residential. Either conversion of exiting building or complete redevelopment

The restaurants and coffee shops will continue and the other buildings will become (expensive) housing.

Any retail will be in out of town malls or it’ll be online shopping.
