ADHD and secondary school choices

Hi everyone

I appreciate that what I’m asking is really vague but here goes anyway!

If you have a secondary age child with ADHD or you work in education, what did you look for in a secondary school? What have you found works really well and what hasn’t?

For context, I have a Year 5 DS with medicated “classic” ADHD. He will not need specialist provision and as yet, does not have an EHCP (in process but has been a challenge to get this far 🙄).

He’s got great social skills, lots of friends and is very sporty but I think has the propensity to be easily led and possibly quite vulnerable. He is very easily distracted and lacks focus - the whole “driven by a motor” describes him exactly. Medication has been a total game changer.

He loves school for the most part but there have been issues where a couple of other children have set him up to be blamed for something he’s had nothing to do with (the school dealt with it brilliantly).

I have two older NT DC so not a stranger to the challenges of secondary school but obvs the whole ADHD thing adds a whole new layer.

Many thanks!
