Trousers for skinny boys - what’s the term I’m looking for?

I’m having a slow brain day!

I need to buy trousers for a skinny teen boy, or tall for his age, but “skinny fit” and “slim fit” are about leg styles rather than waist to leg length ratio.

Is there a search term?
or a brand you’d recommend.

Adjustable waist? Or just measure his waist size and search by that. I know my skinny teen is a 28 inch waist.

Oh forgot to say New Look men’s section is great, I got him two pairs of jeans from there.

M&S sells skinny fit slim waist trousers - not sure if just uniform though.

Adult jeans in the appropriate waist size/leg length.

DS2 is a 28W/30L, although they are getting slightly short. He usually wears straight or super skinny jeans.

Slim fit

Longer length or extra long? Are you looking for uniform trousers or casual?

For uniform I get DS's trousers from M&S. Measure waist and inside leg and then refer to the size guide.

For jeans etc I'm running out of ideas. A 34" leg is starting to look too short but it's hard to find longer length for a 30" waist.

You need to find somewhere that sells small waist with long legs. IME the cheaper/younger brands do this better and you can get 28in waist (sometimes 26) with 30 or 32 leg in places like Prinark and New Look, which you won't find in M&S etc.

My 6 ft 3 14/15 yo lived in jeans from Primark. The cheaper brands seem to cater for them better.

If you want a 36" leg in jeans, Levis are your best bet but only go to that leg length from a 32" waist so would have to wear a belt. They do smaller waists x 34" leg so if a slouchy style would work

lljkk · 24/04/2023 17:51

Primark

AnnPerkins · 24/04/2023 18:13

Thanks QuickGuide. DS is just under 6'3" and his inherited 34" Levi's are looking short. We'll try a visit to Primark.

ASOS is brilliant for skinny tall teens. My 16yo is 6'5, a 34" leg (though those are looking a bit shorter now) and a 30 waist. ASOS do a 26 W 34L in a couple of styles of jeans and loads and loads of choice in a 28W - they also do a good range of tall shirts and t shirts

Blessedbethefruitz · 24/04/2023 18:22

H&M has adjustable waists (in the up to 8 years old bit at least) and are generally long length, in non uniform trousers and jeans. Tall skinny boy here too!

CatOnTheChair · 24/04/2023 18:33

24" waist here.
Belts it is.

Uniform: m&s extra long, down 2 ages just about works when fully adjusted.

Thanks all - lots to go on here.
