Anyone know the cost of shortening curtains?

Does anyone know roughly how much it costs to shorten curtains with a lining (per metre)?

We considered made to measure curtains, but don't feel we can justify the cost. However, don't want to buy ready made and find they're extortionate to alter.

Wonderweb?

Thanks for your reply. If I'm being honest, I think we'd both rather have them cut and taken up by someone.

Anyone else able to help? Just can't find any price lists online for places around here. I phoned Dunelm and they confirmed they could do them, but lady had no idea how much they charge.

I was at a seamstress yesterday for clothing alterations but saw curtains on the price list and it said £30-£40.

Depends how wide they are. Where I used to work it was £6 per width of fabric. But that was 2014.
Probably easily £10 a width by now.

I had mine shortened at the local dry cleaners for £25 but they weren't lined. That was the total price, not by metre. They're from a large 2.5 m window.

For a very long wide pair it cost me 45.00 recently at Johnsons.

I paid £20 to have readymades shortened by the shop I bought them from. It was a few years ago so a bit more than that now. However they wouldn't shorten other sellers' curtains, just the ones they sell.

MintJulia · 25/04/2023 16:26

It's usually calculated 'per width' or per 130cm wide. With linings, expect to pay about £12-£15

So if each curtain measures 2m60 then each curtain is two width, so each curtain will cost £24-£30. Two curtains = £60 max.

I sew curtains and clothing. Shorten curtains is 70p per foot unlined and machined, then more if lined or hand sewn. Dry cleaners are very expensive for alterations

I bought a 2nd hand sewing machine and taught myself.

£35 a pair in the little independent place where I live.
