Does this sound like a UTI in toddler DS?

He’s had one before and was very obviously in discomfort around his groin.
he’s had a temp since Saturday which seems to spike in the afternoons and cause shivering and discomfort, however it does come down with calpol/nurofen.

the thing that’s making me wonder about UTI as he recently potty trained and was holding his wees for a bit (sometimes til 2-3pm in the afternoon) after the first week, this has stopped now but today he did a big wee this morning and it was quite dark, then he’s done three other tiny wees also quite dark. He’s not drinking as much as usual either, I’m going to try and get a load of water or juice into him when he wakes up (temp spiked so he’s put himself to sleep).

I’ve spoken to the GP and I’m going to take him in tomorrow morning unless his symptoms worsen and I’m going to try and get a urine sample in the potty this afternoon but I’m wondering if it does sound like a UTI?

I know they are rarer in boys, he had a kidney scan after the first one and all was fine, but it was the timing with potty training that made me wonder. It’s presenting differently to before though, and he does have cold symptoms - he’s really snotty and has been all week.

He’s three by the way. no sign that it hurts to actually go.

Dark wee can just be dehydration which happens with a cold. If he's potty training can you get a sample to the GP?
Children usually vomit with UTIs too. My daughter was hospitalised with one at 11 months and was severely unwell.

Does his wee smell funny, a bit sweet? That was always the sign with my DD (and with me).

Doesn’t smell funny that I’ve noticed just like strong urine.
I was wondering if maybe the fever was dehydrating him as well. I might try and get loads of fluids into him this afternoon if he feels better and see if it clears/looks more usual. It’s the fact he’s passing very small amounts which is unlike him, he usually does massive wees!

im definitely going to try and get a sample, I just sterilised the potty so it’s as clean as possible to catch it in.

He hasn’t vomited either… yet.
