Court threat by parking company

To cut a long story short I had a parking fine where the phone number / text your reg didn't work - I got as far as giving card details, where we were etc and they texted me to ask for the car reg but that. It didn't work. There was. I body on duty and I rang back but no option to speak fo anyone. I challenged the fine but it was rejected and after a few letters I started to ignore them
I was too late to ask for help from the support group people before anyone asks why I didn't do that. I didn't know it was a thing until I'd challenged. Apparently if I'd ignored all along it would have been better. I've had a new letter with examples of people who've lost in court- is this a scare tactic. Will they really take me to court or send bailiffs ?? Does anyone know or have advice ?

My friend had the bailiff turn up for unpaid parking ticket... clamped her car till she got the money together

The only letters you’ve need to worry about are the actual court documents. There is also an official pre court document that you need to fill in. I had parking eye on my back for years. It got as far as the pre court document and then they gave up.

Please don't ignore this. They will send bailiffs. They will clamp your car. And the bill will rack up.

You need to have a look on the Martin Lewis website - he has quite a lot of advice on there RE this stuff, about what's legal for them to do and what isn't.

If its a local authority car park I pay up.
If its a private parking company I NEVER answer their letters and it has never got as far as court.
Some have chased me for over a year, with "lawyers" but they have always given up in the end as I refuse to engage with them.

A parking co is taking my friend to court, it was a pub he had a drink in and drove/parked on the premises during covid. They wrote his reg down wrong/didn't write it at all in the pub. Then a subsequent lockdown happened, the pub closed for good and couldn't speak to them for additional cctv to show he was an actual customer. Loads of complaints on SM with customers saying the same.

The court date keeps being pushed and rearranged, but it is happening. I'm not sure how it's going to play out but I hope these cowboys dont get away with it.

It is a private one i think. This has put the wind up me a bit. I know I tried to pay which is why I've been ignoring it

Maybe you should start paying for parking…

How many parking tickets do you get?

NerrSnerr · 23/04/2023 18:31

The advice is to now pay up. Surely it's not worth the stress or worry.

The onus is on you to pay, if you're unable to pay for whatever reason you should really park elsewhere (or run the risk of getting a ticket).

headstone · 23/04/2023 18:41

Certainly don’t just pay up, that is how they get away with their disgusting behaviour. If it went to court you would win most likely because you weren’t able to pay. Most likely they will just threaten you with court. You don’t need to fill in your income details. If this is a pre court document just state why you don’t owe them anything on the form.
