save for the future

Be a bigger fuck up than what I was on£40 a week. 😁

Straightlineruler · 23/04/2023 00:57

Hmmm, they can't do the lottery until they're 18 though, sooooo

HighInfidelity · 23/04/2023 01:17

I definitely wouldn’t have saved for the future. I would have spent it all on ridiculous things that I had no need for and nights out where I would have been buying drinks for everyone. I was terrible with money at that age.

IDontWantToBeAPie · 23/04/2023 01:46

I'd have put it in an ISA (after buying a holiday and lots of clothes 😂). I was oddly sensible with money.

Lottery is legal at 16 in the UK...

No it's not. It used to be but it's 18 now

Readytoplay · 23/04/2023 03:07

yep, law changed a couple of years back. It’s now 18. But to answer your question an OP, when I did play at 16 I always said I was going to buy a mansion house (and still would if won, but I solemnly play)

Lullabies2Paralyze · 23/04/2023 03:23

I had no career aspirations so I guess I’d have just lived off it and hopefully not spent it all at once seeing as I’m not one for fancy cars or designer handbags 😂

lljkk · 23/04/2023 05:13

donate to stop nuclear armageddon, is what bothered me at age 16 in 1984

urbanbuddha · 23/04/2023 05:19

I don’t know what else I’d have spent it on but at 16 I would definitely have booked a nose job.
I’m at peace with my nose now - we’ve had good times and weathered some storms together.

wildinthecountry · 23/04/2023 05:32

Horses and dogs , lots of them .

Thekormachameleon · 23/04/2023 05:39

Paid my parents mortgage off, bought a house for myself, a horse and some land

StellaLaBella · 23/04/2023 06:05

Using it to have VIP backstage passes to see Prince or George Michael. Upon which I probably would've fainted and it would've been a total waste of money Grin

sashh · 23/04/2023 06:12

Well it depends at what stage, I would definitely have left home.

Stickmansmum · 23/04/2023 06:23

I would have bought a beautiful home that was in a really good investment area. I would have paid off mum and dads mortgage and given my sister a big lump sum. I would have paid for an amazing family holiday and then invested the rest for the long term.

fryanddry · 23/04/2023 06:26

a house, and then i would have frittered the rest away on fun and fake friends

WhereMyRosemaryGoes · 23/04/2023 06:32

16yo me would buy Benneton jeans in EVERY colour, and build a homeless shelter.

46yo me would get my tooth fixed and buy a house.

jay55 · 23/04/2023 07:25

I think I'd have carried on with alevels and uni, while going to even more gigs.

Would have bought a fancy apartment while at uni and then travelled rather than work after.
Panicked the money was going too fast and worked on properly investing.

PleaseYourselfandEatTheCrusts · 26/05/2023 14:16

I think I would have given quite a lot of my winning to my parents and other family members to be honest.

Iliketulips · 26/05/2023 15:19

I started going on holiday with my friend at 17, so think I'd have booked a holiday. I was fairly grounded at that age, so would have looked investment for the future.

Turfwars · 26/05/2023 15:28

Oh knowing what a gullible twat I was back then , I'd have a shitload of fairweather friends dropping hints about me bringing us all to Ibiza every other week and I'd have managed to find some dumbass boyfriend to convince me to invest the lot in his sure-fire business, promptly fucking off once he got the money.

Now, I would literally tell DH and nobody else would ever know.

strawberrywhisk · 26/05/2023 15:32

I'd of probably spent it in a month

LanfordLunchBox · 26/05/2023 15:35

I’d most likely have wasted it. Hopefully I’d have managed a few amazing holidays and maybe learned to drive, but my friends and I would have blown through so much without a thought. My Mum grew up extremely poor and would have encouraged me to enjoy it I expect. My Dad may have stepped in to try and salvage some.

Realistically, if it hadn’t gone by the time I turned 18, I’m sure the horrible boyfriend I had throughout the end of my teens and early twenties would have spent it.

BerryTrifle · 26/05/2023 15:38

I was quite sensible and may well have bought a house. Then again, house prices weren't crazy then so maybe I wouldn't have felt it was urgent. I'd definitely have bought a shitload of clothes!
