I went out for a meal last night. I had 3 large glasses of red wine. Enough to know about it but not so much to be really drunk.

Home early, went to bed. Woke at 1.30am feeling very drunk, nauseous. Went to bathroom, felt like I was going to pass out, had to lay down on the floor I felt hot, really hot, and clammy. I undressed and laid on the floor.

Went to the loo, laid down again, and repeat. No sick. After a while it passed and I went back to bed .

I drink red wine reasonably frequently, and feel like if I'd been too drunk I'd have been sick.

What I mean is, I don't think it's alcohol related. I had a similar thing happen a few months ago when I hadn't been drinking, also in the middle of the night.

Peri menopause or menopause. Alcohol really not great during this time.

PelvicFlora · 22/04/2023 09:25

Perimenopause. I find red wine is the absolute worst for this. It's a horrible feeling.

Bemyclementine · 22/04/2023 09:27

Oh really?? I hadn't considered it could be that. Anyone know why?

the Way you described it is how I feel every time I’ve had a drink….

Bemyclementine · 22/04/2023 09:32

Is it a hot flush/night sweat then? Does the faintness accommpany the hot flush? I wasn't sweating so much as clammy.

@Bluelightbaby if I'd had twice as much to drink I'd have put it down to that.

I’ve stopped drinking because alcohol gave me night sweats, and I can’t drink as much as I could.

Nimbostratus100 · 22/04/2023 09:33

thats how I feel after one glass....

wwyd2021medicine · 22/04/2023 09:34

3 large glasses of wine (3x250ml) is a whole bottle
That's more than enough to explain it I'd have thought
I'm a daily drinker and I would be rough after a whole bottle of red

azafata2 · 22/04/2023 09:34

Unfortunately yes. It happened to me in a supermarket one. Had to sit down, dizzy, faint etc. If I could have lay on the floor I would have. I was in full menopause at the time.

Bemyclementine · 22/04/2023 09:54

@wwyd2021medicine we had 1 bottle between 4, then 1 bottle between 3. Either way, I've never had it before due to alcohol sbd previously with no alcohol at all.

@azafata2 actually, now you mention it I had a dizzy spell in a shop a couple of months ago.

Would you see the gp?

OP posts:
azafata2 · 22/04/2023 10:02

You know I didn't. I then realised the 2 were linked. I just got on with it. Went through the menopause no HRT. Now absolutely fine on the other side. However speak to your GP about possible HRT etc. I did have to stop drinking though as the effect the next day during the menopause was awful. Dizzy, anxiety but much more exaggerated than a normal hangover. Unfortunately.....

Bemyclementine · 22/04/2023 10:10

Thank you. I have been cutting down drinking in any case so another reason to can only help.
