DD is in reception. Seems to be doing ok with reading according to her teacher but the books she brings home from school are just a bit dull which is making her reading at home a chore and hard work. I'd love for her to actually want to read. Fully accept that it's hard to make an inspiring book with limited phonetic vocab.
She loves anything girly or about kings/queens/princesses, or funny/silly. I've heard good things about Julia Donaldson's Songbirds series so I've ordered already but I'd love to hear more recommendations so that we can have a selection at home for her to chose from.

Even the local library is limiting Confused

The usbourne phonics readers books have always been a hit here.

You don’t say what stage she’s on but at the v early stages mine liked the ragtag rhymes - only 2 levels and quite easy but funny nonsense so made a change from “the rat ran, the cat ran” etc.

Sorry, she is on Rocket Phonics "Red A" level. I think that's about level 2-3 in other series.

I'll look into the Ragtime Rhymes- that sounds perfect.

Usborne: they're a bit too long at this stage but we can come back to those later.
