Anyone want to help me with a very specific gift request - I’m struggling!

Anyone want to help with a bit of Googling around a specific (and I’m afraid a bit dull) gift request for my (suspected neurodiverse) DS’s upcoming 6th birthday. He is very definite about this thing and obviously it doesn’t exist but I think I could work it out from a few bits and pieces if I could find them.

If anyone replies I’ll post some details!

Get one of the boxes that offices use for filing papers and paint them 😁

Is sticky backed plastic still a thing? That would be your friend here.

I have these from hobbycraft. They do several sizes, really cheap but sturdy. Also really easy to paint or decorated.

I didn’t think of hobby craft but also have some of these and agree, very sturdy. With some acrylic paint could do the job well

If you don't mind painting/covering then the tinyboxcompany has lots of different sized/coloured boxes

IKEA is your friend here

Pretty sure they do a black lidded box called nimm or nimb or similar

Can then paint the top?

banjaxxed · 21/04/2023 20:54

The do this in black too and various sizes

I did spot this but worried it wasn’t deep enough. I’m not very good at visualising things based on measurements!
@joleyn - thanks. This looks like a good option.
I think the hobby craft or works one and some paint might work.

My ds once wanted a 'teach yourself viking' book, which wasn't easy either!

Eek! How did you get round that one @CMOTDibbler ?

Did you end up writing it yourself?

Personally, from the perspective of a child with learning needs, I would involve him! Your son knows what he wants - brilliant. So your present to him is to buy the materials and spend the time. PS Mine wanted to build a full size-ish car out of wood. I bought the materials. Of course it was too large scale. Of course we didnt have all the right tools. But he had a really good go. He passed DT GCSE last year - I like to think the time we spent on his many other projects paid off!!

Would the IKEA slub range boxes work? They had both black and purple in stock.
