Are you allowed to shoot on private land/woodland in April in Scotland?

No, I don't think there is any game that you're allowed to shoot in April in Scotland.

You can stalk for Roe bucks from 1st April

September is the start of the season. You realise game are nesting/breeding in April hence why you aren't allowed to shoot?

That might be what it is then as there are a few Roe deer around.

Just feeling a bit concerned as I usually walk in the woods where the shooter was set up and aiming into the trees. Are the nesting birds not protected?

They will have been shooting rook/crow nests and no they shouldn't be doing it

They could be shooting pests, crows, magpies, wood pigeons etc. Pests can be shot all year round.

Pests sorry. We don’t shoot pets unless they’re worrying the sheep.

Game birds aren't shot in trees.

Probably after squirrels or pigeons. OK any time of year.
