Dairy free food alternatives

Inspired by another thread I would love to hear everyone’s favourite dairy free foods.

The one I rave about the most is the Tesco vegan sausage rolls they are amazing!

I liked some of the Wicked kitchen things from Tesco, the desserts are lovely for special occasions.

I never found a dairy free cheese or natural yoghurt that I could tolerate unfortunately, and the flavoured yogurts were full of sugar which defeated the point for me of quitting dairy for my general health (ie not vegan or intolerant) when having them for everyday use

I quite like the Alpro range. Sheese cheese spread isn't too bad.

Socialdistancechampion · 21/04/2023 13:54

Most ready roll pastry is dairy free so it's good for making reliable pastry products
Oreos, Jammy Dodgers and Bourbon biscuits
Oatly products
My kids LOVE Asda strawberry Soya yogurts (small pots) and won't eat any other yogurts

As I said on the other thread check out the "accidentally vegan" pages on Facebook and similar, there are a lot of dairy free foods that aren't marketed as such

Oatley oat milk and cream. Can't stand the taste of cow's milk now.

Fipfop · 21/04/2023 13:56

Nomo chocolate is my favourite!

I'm person who goes into a coffee shop and orders a cheese toastie (I'm ok with cooked dairy and my kids are 100% free from) and has a hot chocolate made with oat milk

emmathedilemma · 21/04/2023 15:04

That's me too @Socialdistancechampion ! I can tolerate some things more than others....butter cooked in something like a cake doesn't affect me but melt it over vegetables and i'll be running to the loo within minutes! I'm not that dairy intolerant that i'm willing to give up cheese completely :)

Spottypillow · 21/04/2023 20:39

Ohhh I’ve been looking for a good suggestion on cheese and yogurts! I shall be adding some of these to the list!

Yeah vegan magnums gets my vote too
Swedish Glace ice cream
Orios
Jus roll croisants and pan au chocolat
Oatley Oat milk!

WeAreTheHeroes · 21/04/2023 20:48

Alpro Greek style yoghurt is pretty good. I've tried a number of unsweetened dairy free milks and prefer almond milk. Oat milk is sweeter, but palatable. I tried Coko and it was disgusting.

Socialdistancechampion · 21/04/2023 20:55

Just remembered another. Coconut collaborative for custard and double cream

emmathedilemma · 21/04/2023 21:35

The alpro custard or the vanilla flavour mini pots (pack of 4, the dark chocolate is also lush) are good either cold or hot (but don’t microwave in the pot!)
I don’t mind any of the alpro yogurts - the plain is good for overnight oats or adding fruit, the Greek is a solid base for breakfast and granola, and the fruity 4 packs are nice for lunchboxes.
jammy dodgers and party rings are also dairy free from memory (including the Aldi versions)

LouLou198 · 21/04/2023 21:48

I like Alpro yogurts and the unsweetened almond milk. Green and blacks 70% chocolate.

Jellycats4life · 21/04/2023 22:52

Coconut collaborative yoghurt, cream and ice cream 👌

HighInfidelity · 21/04/2023 22:56

Gu vegan cheesecakes.

WomanFromTheNorth · 22/04/2023 04:12

Just wish Maccies would do a dairy-free Macflurry!

Callixte · 22/04/2023 05:23

Keeping it dairy-free AND cheap: ASDA are pretty good. They carry Norseland Mexicana vegan cheese which is delicious (but highly processed). Also Applewood vegan smoked cheese, GranoVita Mushroom Pâté, and OMV! vegan pestos.

Lidl have a great fake mortadella, but I've never seen it in the UK.

Pestispeeved · 22/04/2023 08:30

Asda custard style donuts are also dairy free
