If you are a teacher in the UK, which teachers' discount scheme do you use please?
Thanks :)

Are there any? Don't know of anything that people use (other than discounts that come with union membership fees, maybe).

monkeyblonde · 21/04/2023 06:22

I use a website called discountsforteachers.co.uk which is fab! www.discountsforteachers.co.uk

birdling · 21/04/2023 07:46

It can be difficult to get the discounts if your school email address is a .co.uk rather than a .ac.uk.
So I don't have any.

I claim a tax rebate on my GTCS fees and Union dues from HMRC.

I was wondering if there was anything similar to the Blue Light discounts for people working in NHS for those working in education......

Don’t think there is.

See above... discounts for teachers is worth checking

veneeroftheyear · 21/04/2023 13:15

I agree - discounts for teachers worth checking out. Also CSSC sports and Leisure, although you pay a monthly fee for this so it depends if you will use the services.

I am a retired teacher so don't have a school e mail any more but have taken advantage of www.discountsforteachers.co.uk/

ThanksItHasPockets · 21/04/2023 14:17

Yes to discountsforteachers.co.uk. My school email address is org.uk and I have never had a problem. I have only used it for online shopping however, not bricks and mortar. I don't believe there is an education equivalent to the Blue Light card.

Headspace offers free subscriptions to teachers and support staff, called Headspace for Educators.

Why would there be a scheme for teachers? After all they are not essential workers nor are they underpaid?

ThanksItHasPockets · 21/04/2023 14:23

By the way OP you might not be aware that there is a 'staffroom' board on MN, which does not come up in Active and therefore avoids previously frequent gatecrashing by people who think we're all loaded and knock off work at 3.30pm.

Why would there be a scheme for teachers? After all they are not essential workers nor are they underpaid?

And yet, there is. What a conundrum.

HideTheCroissants · 21/04/2023 14:43

I use www.discountsforteachers. Fat Face are one of the shops doing discounts on there and SOME of their branches will give you the discount in store if you have your staff ID. That’s the only “in person” place I’ve found for teacher discount.

😂

yeah right!

Not essential yet had to work through lockdowns, not underpaid yet some are using foodbank. TAs in my area are on £12.42 per hour which is very low when you take into account they are paid for just 39 weeks per year at 5 hours per day!

Several staff in my school (including me) don’t even earn enough to pay tax because underfunding of schools has left us with ever reducing paid hours.

Yes many school staff are underpaid.

😂

Bluevelvetsofa · 21/04/2023 15:09

It’s not really like the blue light discounts though, is it?

veneeroftheyear · 22/04/2023 08:47

Your union should also have a discount/reward scheme. The NEU certainly does.

@HideTheCroissants There isn't an emoji for sarcasm. (I was a teacher so they are def not sentiments I share)
