Received a mysterious foam ball in the post

Hi,

so today I received a parcel from Evri with a yellow foam ball inside. I didn't order it, my husband didn't order it and my family and friends didn't.

Pic attached.

I have no idea who it is from.

I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 1 year old.

Should I let them play with the ball or throw it away? It doesn't look expensive, more like a cheap product from China

How strange! I do hope you get to the bottom of it! Was it addressed to you? Did it not have an invoice inside the packaging?

LubaLuca · 20/04/2023 20:50

How was it packaged? Any clues on the outside?

hotpotlover · 20/04/2023 20:51

It was adressed to me and there was no invoice inside

Packaged in plastic with an evri label. A delivery man dropped it off.

I meant was it properly printed or handwritten? Any return address?

So like someone had taken it to a parcel point rather than being shipped by a company?

Yes. This is weirding me out more and more.

If it’s got anything to do with an InPost locker this sort of stuff happens regularly!
Especially with Vinted parcels.

It's a printed label. No handwriting on it and no return address

I wouldn't allow my kids to play with it. I appreciate there is probably nothing wrong with the ball, but I wouldn't feel good about it. Better safe than sorry.

Franklin2000 · 20/04/2023 20:57

are you expecting any other deliveries? Check your bank statements for payments you don’t recognise. It was a common scam at one time you’d order something and the merchant would send you something really cheap in its place. You couldn’t raise a chargeback with your bank because they could prove they’d sent you a parcel.

It's a ball not a bomb

GoodChat · 20/04/2023 20:58

Just let the kids have it. What's the harm?

Ok. 🙄

Have you ordered anything from vinted recently? I’ve had the wrong item turn up when the seller has mixed up parcels.

No, I haven't ordered anything from Vinted recently

Have you ordered anything from Vinted lately? I have heard of this happening where the system mixes up the electronic delivery labels and so the sender unknowingly posts to the wrong person.

hotpotlover · 20/04/2023 21:07

Just checked my bank account and credit cards, no mysterious payments.

I have ordered from Vinted maybe half a year ago?

There's a date on the label of April 7th and a reference number that starts with LP. It's not a tracking number.

I think I'll bin the ball tomorrow. I'm not a fan of presents from unknown senders.

Some weird free gift to do with something else you’ve bought?
You won it in a raffle / prize draw type thing?

Echobelly · 20/04/2023 21:16

I was going to say what above poster says - it's an amazon merchant sending out a cheap random thing to a random address so they can make it look like they're getting genuine customers and reviews.

You can keep the ball, nothing will happen to you and you aren't liable for anything, they just need to send something to a real person and address.

It could be that. I managed to track the parcel now, it's from China and it was in transit for 14 days.

That's all I was able to find out.

My husband has binned the ball now 😂

A few years back I received 2 parcels with strange objects in them. One had an invoice and I managed to track it to an ebay seller. I contacted ebay and it is some sort of scam. The scammer had managed to set up an account using my address details, they used their own banking details and I can only presume that it involved some sort of refund scam. I think by using low value products they think less people will investigate and they do it I large numbers. Ebay cancelled my account as effectively there were two. I had to prove my identity to get mine re-opened.

LaughingCat · 20/04/2023 21:26

You binned the ball? Maybe it’s because I’ve lived in Yorkshire too long but a free ball’s a free ball. I’d have given it to the kids to play with or a friend/family member with a dog.

LittleMie · 20/04/2023 21:28

Couple years ago I got sent beads every couple of days. Turns out someone had got into my eBay and was buying BMW parts. it took a while to show on my statement. The fraud team said the beads would some how be related, maybe to show something had been delivered to my address? Still don't get it and the beads oddly creeped me out. Just keep a look out for any weird transactions on your online banking, I'd say
