What would happen if you were suspended just before maternity leave?

Just wondering about this due to a conversation with someone else yesterday. What would happen in this instance? Would the investigation be paused until the post holder returned?

The baby will stay inside until the investigation has concluded. Women have been known to give birth to school-age children for this reason.

🤣

Consultations, redundancy and I’m fairly certain disciplinary action can take place whilst the post holder is on maternity leave.

You can't do anything employment wise BECAUSE of pregnancy, but you can suspend etc for other reasons.

They can still conduct an investigation and then a disciplinary, but they need to follow a fair process which allows the employee to put their case across and that they are disadvantaged by not being in work.

Meetings should be avoided during the compulsory maternity leave (normally 2 weeks after birth).

Tbh more information is needed before advice can be given by generally no an investigation shouldn't be stopped, you can't pause it for a year especially if it's serious enough to warrant suspension. You'd usually follow your usual process wherever possible.
