Just that really. Looking for opinions before i go out and buy another one expensive gadget to do a job that can be done without the purchase of another expensive gadget

I went through 3, they all broke ,they were good at replacing them but after the last one I didn't bother. It leaves streaks too.

Elbow Grease window spray and a paper towel is far better IMHO.

Ifailed · 19/04/2023 11:15

Get yourself a blade, mop and some scrims and copy window cleaners. You can buy them all on Amazon and there's plenty of U tube videos to follow.

DiscoBeat · 19/04/2023 11:15

Definitely! I love ours!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 19/04/2023 11:17

I love my window vac but use it more for clearing condensation off the windows than cleaning them.

Linio · 19/04/2023 11:17

No, I stopped using it. It left steaks from the edges of the sponge, so it takes several goes to get it perfect

Plump82 · 19/04/2023 11:18

I love mine. It broke and couldn't afford another so I got a cheaper make. No where near as good as the Karcher.
I was using a squeegee while waiting for the new one to arrive and it was awful and all the water was pouring into my window ledge and the steaming back up by the time I'd finished!

AnchorWHAT · 19/04/2023 11:18

I have one, the only difference to using the ordinary blade and scrim method is that it sucks up the water so less drips on the carpet. Bit of a pain to empty and remember to recharge so it spends most of its time in the cupboard. Not worth it-in my opinion.

Englebertstrousers · 19/04/2023 11:20

Fairy liquid, hot water and a squeegee. Blue roll to finish. The karchers are ok but do leave streaks and i always forget to recharge mine.

ExtremelyDetermined · 19/04/2023 11:26

No, we gave up on ours fairly quickly, we mainly used it for condensation, it was annoying to have to find space for it where you need it, keep it charged, empty it (our bathroom is downstairs) and it got smelly and dirty. I just wipe the condensation with a flannel or old sock or similar now, leave it on the radiator to dry then put it in the laundry. Wash the inside of windows with spray and e cloths.

MiningForYou · 19/04/2023 11:29

I love a gadget but I do much better with Astonish window cleaner and a microfibre cloth. Even on the shower screens.

Brrrrrrrrrrrr · 19/04/2023 11:29

They're fantastic and only leave streaks if you don’t wipe the blade every so often or forget to empty the water out.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 19/04/2023 11:35

Love mine but they are definitely best if you have big sweeps of window.

Brazilagogo · 19/04/2023 11:36

I have had a Nilfisk then a Karcher. They are useful but both have broken. I’m not sure I will be replacing.

neilyoungismyhero · 19/04/2023 11:38

There's a definite knack to using one that's for sure, sometimes I find it not always.
We have bi folds and when I get into the right action its brilliant. I think it's practice too.

Ikeasucks · 19/04/2023 12:37

Thanks one and all. Some really mixed responses (thats mumsnet). Think I’ll just be continuing then with my sponge and swiper for the time being 👍

I live in a flat and think it’s great! But I do only have 3 windows and 3 doors to do 🤣

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 19/04/2023 13:06

DH likes it. It means he cleans the windows ( occasionally) so that’s a 👍from me.

Bluevelvetsofa · 19/04/2023 13:11

I like ours. I always charge it after use, so it’s ready for the next time. A microfibre cloth removes any residual streaks.

fussychica · 19/04/2023 13:33

I've got the Vileda Windowmatic. It was half the price of a Karcher and received as good a rating in tests. I've been really pleased with it. It's light, simple and if it failed I'd definitely replace it with another.

Rubyupbeat · 19/04/2023 13:41

Brilliant, had mine for years, no streaks, literally leave the window sparkling.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 20/04/2023 08:56

Dh bought one and very enthusiastically did the inside of the windows (they needed it) once. That was about 2 years ago. Not sure where his new toy even is now.

TempletonTheRat · 20/04/2023 08:58

I love ours. Not for washing the windows, but for clearing the condensation on the bathroom mirror after my shower so I can see and do my hair and makeup without waiting for it to de-fog. Use it all the time!
