Pickled Onion Monster Munch.

Aren't they supposed to take a layer of skin off the inside of your mouth with the strength of the pickledyness?
I haven't had them for years. Bought a 6 pack yesterday because I saw them in B and M.
Was very disappointed. Even eating 2 bags in a row didn't work.

If you each 4 packs from a multi pack it has a weird effect!

TheInterceptor · 18/04/2023 21:00

Try salt and vinegar Discos for that freshly-peeled feeling!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 18/04/2023 21:00

Oh that's a shame! Yes. Top tier snack, zingy as fuck.

Madeintowerhamlets · 18/04/2023 21:01

They’ve definitely gone downhill like a lot of crisps. They taste like sweetener to me too.

mrsbyers · 18/04/2023 21:01

You need coop salt and Chardonnay vinegar for the inside of your gums melting feeling

FatOaf · 18/04/2023 21:02

Monster Munch became horrible years ago. Have Space Raiders instead: both pickled onion and beef are much nicer than Monster Munch, and taste like Monster Munch did before Walkers spoiled it.

Custardbanana · 18/04/2023 21:03

They're rubbish now. You need coop sea salt and Chardonnay vinegar crisps. Give you brain freeze and turn your tongue inside out. Well lush.

stairgates · 18/04/2023 21:04

Can anyone remember the other pickled onion crips, I think they were in a space theme but not the space raiders of today, around in the 90's and were 5p a bag???

Yes! They left me a bit traumatised but wanting more!

MadamClench · 18/04/2023 21:09

@Madeintowerhamlets YES to the sweeteners, that's what it was!
OK I clearly need to buy BOTH Disco's and Salt and Chardonnay vinegar crisps. For investigative purposes obviously.

Agreed. Too mediocre and bland now.

IJustHadToLookHavingReadTheBook · 18/04/2023 21:33

Golden Wonder salt and vinegar and where the mouth-skin-peeliness is at. You can't get them from many places these days though. B and M. Lidl sometimes.

PickleOfAConundrum · 18/04/2023 21:36

I bought my daughter a packet of Pickled Onion Monster Munch crisps and she complained her mouth was sore. The next thing her lips went very pale. I made her drink plenty of water which helped but it should never have happened. Supposed to be something to enjoy ffs, never buying them again!

Yes these, they are lethal!

Grimeduster · 18/04/2023 21:44

Another vote for Coop Salt and Chardonnay vinegar. I like my food to fight back.

Skybluepinky · 18/04/2023 22:00

No they just make the person that eats them stink and they still do that, I can smell them a mile off.

Correct. They are literally self harm and you cant stop doing it to yourself.

Iloveabaconbutty · 18/04/2023 22:05

Talking of classic crisps which emerged in the '70s (I'm showing my age) but does anyone remember Smiths "Horror Bags"- cheese and onion "Fangs" (red packet), salt and vinegar "Bones" (black packet) vinegar "Ribs" (green packet) and bacon "Claws" (dark blue packet)?

I loved them and kept all all the empty packets in a collection when I'd finished eating them. Wish I'd kept them. They'd be worth a fortune now.....or maybe not. 😅

RichardsGear · 18/04/2023 22:06

Why do you insane people like that horrible feeling???! Salt and vinegar crisps are just as bad. You need something really savoury that makes your mouth water when you smell them, like beef or even better Marmite crisps but doesn't ruin your mouth. On that note, what the hell happened to Marmite Twiglets? Disappeared.

My tongue tingled thinking of those. I need to get some tomorrow!

That happened to my son too, but it was with salt and vinegar square crisps.

Madeintowerhamlets · 18/04/2023 22:10

Glad you agree about the sweeteners OP! I have to confess that I find the Co-op sea salt & Chardonnay crisps too salty but I’m going to try & track down some space raiders based on the recommendations on this thread!
