Raw chicken - ok after 5 days?

Bought breasts in the butcher on Friday. I'm not well and can't cook tonight but will tomorrow be way too late (5 days after purchase)? It's properly packaged. But....I guess I should go by smell tomorrow. Would you cook it or cut your losses?

Does it not have a date on it ? If it doesn’t I’d ring the butcher and ask.

No date they're just packaged direct from the counter

Can you just freeze it today?

Depends how fresh they were on purchase and where in the fridge you've stored them. I regularly buy from a specialist poultry supplier with top notch merchandise. Their use by date is usually four days from day of purchase. I've often gone a day or two beyond but that's using a zero-temperature crisper drawer.
