Present ideas for 5yo niece

I've asked my sister, on Sunday by text, what to get my niece for her 5th birthday (it's next week) – she's not always brilliant at replying, which is fine and I'm used to it, but her mother-in-law has just died suddenly and I really don't think now is the time to ask again…

She likes Barbie and princess dresses and has a lot of them, but I wondered if there were any other things she might like that I could get her? Age appropriate craft things? Books?

I've really no idea and appreciate any suggestions.

A) a sparkly or cute themed bag, can put some sticker sheets or hair clips inside
Eg. https://www.accessorize.com/uk/kids-strawberry-cross-body-bag-5830506000.html

B) Playdough soap or facepaint sticks (depending on parent, I know a few who would hate anything 'messy' at home and not let their child use them)

Zara has done a nice collection in Kids >Accessories>Toiletries & Cosmetics

C) Kids ukelele

D) A dress-up costume with props - doctor, or magical fairy

A princess activity book or sticker book. These tend to have colouring, spot the difference, mazes, stickers and sometimes stories in them.

Usbourne sparkly sticker book. Usbourne books are generally very good and you get a lot of pages and stickers.

Just google on amazon or somewhere similar and they'll be loads of options.

At that age, most things! My 5yo DD is really obsessed by anything that is a 'surprise' egg sort of thing. Rainbocorns, LOL surprise, anything like that.

Pretty much anything pink, sparkly, rainbow or unicorn. The more rubbish it looks to an adult the more a 5yr old likes it. Bonus points if it appears to be so flimsy it will shatter into a thousand pieces on the first play. Those are the most coveted of tat items.

Thanks so much for these suggestions and the effort you put into linking through to sites, love the idea of a wee bag with goodies in it – hadn't even crossed my mind!

@Pr1mr0se love the Usborne sticker books – I forgot I've bought them before.
@GoneTillNovember oh they do love surprise eggs, brilliant idea, thanks!
@FatAgainItsLettuceTime LOL, yes I get what you mean, I might go see what's in Claire's accessories!

I've a boy same age but they couldn't be more different – he's not into sticker books, crafts, dressing up – he's pretty much lego and hot wheels obsessed so I struggle with what to get his cousin every year, ha!

Thanks for all the really fab ideas, I feel more confident in what I'm shopping for now :)
