How to get an Enhanced DBS check when working for yourself?!

I’ve set up a limited company and will be the only employee for the time being.
I need an Enhanced DBS check due to the nature of the work (in and out of lots of schools) but I’m so confused about how to get one and understand I can’t apply for an Enhanced DBS check myself. Has anybody done this?

Also if you’ve done this through a third party who does it show as your employer on the DBS check?

I already have one for my job but it’s not transferable or on the update system!

Just look up registered DBS Umbrella Organisations. They'll do it for you although their own fee will be added on top so you'll pay a bit more. Also depending what industry you're in, there may be an membership group you can join eg Musicians Union who'll do it for you

I don’t think you can. Each school would need to do a check and add you to their single central record bit some schools will accept sight of a certificate from a recent check undertaken by a third party as part of a wider risk assessment on you.

You own your certificate though, regardless of who pays for it.

Please ignore my advice as this sounds more sensible!

Thanks both!

The umbrella organisation I spoke to said they’d be down as my employer… but obviously I wouldn’t actually be working for them so this really confused me and I don’t think schools would be happy with the details of the employer not being correct on the DBS!

I do have a professional body and they do have an independent practice section so I will see if they can do it ☺️

If you get the certificate and sign up to the update service any school can check your dbs virtually so surely it doesn't matter who the named employer is as long as it's relevant (ie children's charity or service rather than adults )

You can usually do it through your local council

If anybody does have a Enhnaced DBS through an umbrella company and you could possibly tell me what’s under ‘Name of Employer’ that would be really useful!

Thanks @AceofPentacles, they suggested this so sounds like the way forward. I’m just so use to carrying a paper copy of my DBS!
