What do I want for my birthday?

Looking for inspiration. Woman, late 30s, like tech stuff/gadgets but also like nice products/accessories (I have too many bags though).

My hobbies and interests involve scrolling TikTok/Instagram, listening true crime podcasts, and watching horror movies. I work quite a lot so my downtime is pretty mindless and low maintenance.

Love trainers, would like a colourful 'cool' pair but have larger feet meaning that many pairs I like don't come in my size.

I thought I wanted a Nintendo Switch but realised that interest was just a hyper fixation (ADHD), so thankfully that's out of my system and I didn't spend money on something I'd hardly use.

Considered upgrading my iPhone, but my current phone, while old, works perfectly well and think that I could spend the money better.

I love treating myself and feel so silly that I don't have something set in my mind that I want! Please can you help?

Budget, anything up to £400. Could be several things, or one nice thing.

I don't want anything to do with cleaning or cooking, I also live in a small space so don't want more clutter.

If you see any similarities to yourself, what would YOU buy?

A decent set of headphones?

Luxurious skincare, or a more expensive perfume that you wouldn't normally buy for yourself.

Voucher for a facial or similar treatments.

Fancy pyjamas/socks - the kind of thing that feels decadent because you'd never normally spend so much on something like that.

Do you have a good pair of headphones? I’ve got a pair of Bose Quiet Comfort noise cancelling, they are excellent.

Oooh, a perfume is a good shout! Haven't bought one in a while Grin

Or, a gift of doing something, rather than a thing.
Theatre tickets etc

I would buy myself:

Wireless earbuds. I have some but they're only cheap and I'd like a really good pair.

A gel pedicure as the weather is warming up.

A nice perfume to wear every day.

Upgrade my eye mask that I wear for bed to a proper silk one.

With any extra I'd get a takeaway 😁.

Yes I've got AirPods, 2nd Gen. Happy with them. Over ear headphones hurt my ears and I don't like in ear ones.

Just get a Nintendo switch- they’re great

playing a game is much more satisfying than constantly scrolling through tiktok or instagram

i’ve downloaded some fantastic games recently that were on older consoles and my phone screentime use has gone right now.

I love playing mario kart and other party games with DH too

GoldenCagedBird · 17/04/2023 14:37

Should say gone right down now*

It's my bday at the end of the month - in mid 30's. Have a switch & it's good for occasional playing. I've bought myself Dr martens & a walking treadmill. Other half is buying my colourful Nike air max trainers - love them!

Way back in the days of Game Cubes, I really loved playing Zelda and Harry Potter. And of course the Mario games. Do you think that's good enough use to justify the price? Can you recommend any other games I could try? 😬

I've had a look at the Nike trainers, they look nice! Think I'd want to try some on in person as I've never bought Nikes before and I've heard they run smaller than usual?

Walking treadmill is also a good idea...depending on how it folds I could store it under my sofa. Do you mind sharing a link for the one you're looking at? I've just seen ones on TikTok 😂

hogwarts legacy is out in july if you like HP
persona 5 is now on switch- if you love role playing games with great story, that is an awesome choice. At least 100 hours of gaming as it has a long story
Zelda breath of the wild is excellent, I think there is a new Zelda game coming soon too

i would look at YouTube to watch reviews and gameplay of the above

there is also a ton of super Mario games and all of the old classics

if you play on your phone a lot, I’d definitely get a switch. It keeps my brain so much more active and is more fun than scrolling.

Thank you for the recommendations, breath of the wild came up in my original research, I’ll look into persona 5! Yeah I think I’d get Hogwarts legacy, my friend has the Lego HP game and there’s something about a Lego game I cannot get behind.

think I’m going to get a switch…
