Easter hols have destroyed me

I'm an absolute husk. And there's an inset day tomorrow too!

I can't believe how hard I work only for my holidays to be much much harder work. For reference I have a 2yo and a 5yo and work 4 days a week. I am so much less exhausted when completely flat out working!

Tell me the teen years are a little easier on this point? I feel like a shell of myself

Bollocks. Search her history, she is always one teaching thread having digs. She knew exactly what she was doing.

Which is really shit for OP who just needed some support.

Anjo2011 · 16/04/2023 14:52

I find the lack of funds for the holidays is difficult for us, once you’ve exhausted the park, made cakes and been for walks they want to do something more fun and it all costs a small fortune. Mine aren’t back until Wednesday!

Maybe because it would seem teachers are constantly bashed all the time on here, when the majority work so hard and are passionate about their jobs and care for the welfare and education of the kids in their class as if they were their own. Walk a month in the life of a teacher who gives up their own family time to make sure their kids in school get the best and maybe there would be less criticism

I get this but there's only so many times you can read a 'cancel the cheque' situation, without wondering why no-one's reading the thread.

Actually it's very obscure if the poster was joking or not (hence the responses)

Sorry to derail @YukoandHiro although my first post was actually in response to your plight!!

jamsandwich1 · 16/04/2023 15:38

2.5 and 4yo and I’m done! Work is a million times easier. Working this weekend and loving the break 😂
the rainy weather hasn’t helped

Nope. She's just backtracking having had her arse handed to her. roarfeckingroarr is not a fan of teachers (to out it mildly) as a PP has indicated.

Thanks @Labtastic - this gives me great hope! I'm just hanging in there, one tantrum and packed lunch at a time.

You are brave @CalpolDependant - I haven't done a foreign hol with 2 yet (mainly due to the pandemic). I need to rip that plaster but I'm SCARED.

@YukoandHiro we did our first abroad holiday this Easter (mine are 4 and 2). In hindsight it went better than I thought it did. You don't need to take them abroad if you don't want to though!

Daffodilwoman · 16/04/2023 16:30

They are not called The Terrible Twos for nothing.
It does get better after this age.

WonderingWanda · 16/04/2023 16:38

Looking after children is hard work and I am in no way minimising that you are all finding holidays hard. As teacher with my own children I can honestly say I have never felt the way you do which probably says huge amount about my working conditions. Holidays with two children, no time pressure to do anything, no alarm clocks, no manic after school clubs to get to feels like bliss after a 7 week term looking after 32 teenagers and being bombarded with emails, marking, training, noise, backchat etc. In fact it's taken the entire 2 weeks to recover and I am dreading going back to it. Just relieved there are some bank holidays coming up this term. Don't get me wrong, my own kids drive me round the bend often but nothing compared to a classroom full of them....so spare a thought for your children's teachers next week when you all go back to work for a break 😉

DueyCheatemAndHow · 16/04/2023 16:59

I disagree, I teach and I find a day at school a zillion times easier.

But it doesn't matter how u or I find it, OP is finding it tough

Mary46 · 16/04/2023 17:03

Op its hard. Mine much older now but very tiring as you say. School breaks can be long too to keep them entertained.

crimsonpeak · 16/04/2023 17:06

Sending solidarity from the trenches OP - my two are the same ages as yours. We’ve had a good two weeks - plenty of activities, but work is my rest and I’ve missed it - though I know come drop off tomorrow I’ll be sad to see my little 5 year old traipse into the classroom! It’s bonkers this motherhood lark.

“I’m an absolute husk” made me proper LOL op. I feel the same x

I did say I wasn't trying to minimise anyone else's experience and that I agree that looking after children is hard. I was just sharing that I didn't feel the same....is that not allowed?

DueyCheatemAndHow · 16/04/2023 17:41

Of course - but it doesn't much help OP (also careful, cos someone will be along in a minute to accuse you of suggesting that teaching is The Hardest Job Ever (TM)).

Growlybear83 · 16/04/2023 20:23

I know it's different as I only had one child but I used to love holidays and spending all day with my daughter. I always really missed her when she went back to school.

Sarahjaykay · 16/04/2023 20:25

It's the last school holidays before gcse's. I am a wreck and the twins just don't seem to care! Hardest school holidays yet! 🙈

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 16/04/2023 20:28

@LindorDoubleChoc nah you can be assured she definitely wasn't joking

Turtles4543 · 16/04/2023 20:28

I just said to my DS9 that this was a lovely holiday and how there had been some tricky ones when he and his sibling were younger. We’ve turned a corner until the gcse years it seems!

celticprincess · 16/04/2023 20:30

Definitely gets easier as they get older. We used to be out every day when they were younger. Now at 10 and 13 less so. I’m still more tired than when I’m at work but it’s the lack of routine I find makes me tired. We do still go out for days but we also have days in the house and sometimes the youngest takes herself out to play and the oldest watches her tv in her room.

Sugargliderwombat · 16/04/2023 20:34

roarfeckingroarr · 16/04/2023 11:08

I know. Why can't they use one of the holiday days for training?! It's not like they're short of them,

Do you work during your holidays? 🤣

Scanorspam · 16/04/2023 20:35

I have a two year old, utterly adorable, very loving, affectionate, hilarious, the singing and the dancing and the funny mispronouncing of words melts my heart.

BUT I AM DEAD. He has boundless, endless energy. He runs in circles yelling ahhhhhh ahhhhh ahhhhh! He goes outside (shide!) at 8am and would stay there until darkness fell. He goes swimming, to the park, the library, toddler groups, soft play. He physically seems to be unable to keep still, has to be on the move, exploring.

Give him a drink and he’ll tip it up. Toys end up everywhere. Involve him in the housework, MN said. House is destroyed. Cheers, MN. His latest stunt is climbing. He’s pretty damn good.

He goes to nursery three days a week. One of my colleagues said to me brightly as I was leaving work on Wednesday ‘lucky you! Your working week is done!’ I smiled and thought - nope, it’s just beginning!

As a TA I don't get paid for inset days, you expect me to give up one of my (unpaid) days off as well?
