Do you think the Teacher strikes will go ahead?

The strikes are either side of a bank holiday weekend- with exception of 1 day.

I'm sorely tempted to go away somewhere hot for 5 days to take advantage the of a cheaper holiday.

I saw that 98% rejected the last offer so I feel it's probably going ahead.

My child is year 7 so there it would be fully closed for them.

Yes I think they will go ahead

YerAWizardHarry · 16/04/2023 19:27

They went ahead in Scotland.

Yes. I can't see the government making a reasonable offer to us before next Thursday.

They'll go ahead. I'd go for it.

JackSheepskin · 16/04/2023 20:08

Well they aren’t about pay are they, so the Government would need to make some pretty huge promises about all the things the teachers want that definitely, definitely aren’t about a large pay rise.

ILikeTrueCrime · 16/04/2023 20:33

Yes, go on holiday. Strikes will go ahead as the government haven't done anything.

OxanaVorontsova · 16/04/2023 20:34

Yes, the government aren’t interested in talking to teachers.

Makewayforsummer · 16/04/2023 20:35

Yep, the prices aren’t cheap at all at that time. I looked before the strikes were official announced.

Or just funding the pay rise they’ve offered might have been a start.
If they’d actually given the money for it and not just expected schools to find it out of their nonexistent budgets they might have found a lot more teachers were willing to compromise……

Are you sure Y7 will be shut?
2 schools I'm aware of, and one has been open for Y7, other shut.

Shinyandnew1 · 16/04/2023 21:09

They will almost certainly go ahead.

They were closed to Y7 in the last strikes.

They will go ahead. The government and the media have managed to paint teachers as workshy lefty whingers so they certainly won’t be giving in any time soon.
But that doesn’t mean your school will be closed or that your child’s teachers will be striking.

That depends on the teachers going on strike though. It’s a lot of pay lost, I know some teachers who have been on strike last time who aren’t this time as they can’t afford it.

This is probably true but the opposite may also be true if this carries on.
I didn’t strike the last time as it wouldn’t have had an impact in my school. However I’m currently so pissed off with what has been suggested that I’d go out for strike this time anyway just to make a point.

Mammyloveswine · 16/04/2023 21:29

I'm not striking this time as simply can't afford if... it's honestly really hard as I want to strike!

Quartz2208 · 16/04/2023 21:45

Strikes will go ahead but it may not mean year 7 is shut - less teachers may strike (it is a lot of pay to lose) and different choices may be made in the run up to exams
