If your teen has a desk in their bedroom for studying….

What type of chair do they have?
just getting ds1 a desk for his room to study at. All the chairs we look at seem to be office looking. Any suggestions for a comfy / non intrusive looking desk chair? (He’s not into gaming, so no need for a gaming chair if they’re any different, I’m clueless 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣).

Mine had office chairs. Comfort more important than looks if you're sitting at a desk for long periods.

daisydalrymple · 15/04/2023 16:04

any suggestions on where to look? He doesn’t want the bulkier types with wheels as he shares with dc3 so would rather something more compact. (Albeit comfy)

Ikea have some nice office chairs.

DinosApple · 15/04/2023 16:06

DD1 has a Lloyd Loom (tub style) chair with her bureau.

She dumps her soft toys and clothes on it and studies on her bed!

DS2 has this in his room, it's not too big and is comfy to use.
His is lurid green (he chose it) but other less in your face colours are available.

IKEA has loads. There are some with wheels that are not too bulky. Ours looks like the flintan one without arms and is comfy.

MrsBlondie · 15/04/2023 16:22

DS has an office type chair. Its from John Lewis

KickHimInTheCrotch · 15/04/2023 16:22

Mine have ikea chairs.

Hellocatshome · 15/04/2023 16:23

Little ikea wheelie plastic office chair it fits right under the desk so not intrusive at all.

Try and get a good quality ergonomic chair...spend as much as you can. It help his skeleton/musculature for the future. It drives me nuts seeing people slouch... saving up sore backs for the future.

My daughter has an Ikea Orfjall chair, she mostly dumps clothes on it and lies on her bed!

GaelicSky · 15/04/2023 17:42

We got this one for my teen... she finds it comfy.

DS has a big office chair, it was DH’s but DS acquired it gif lockdown learning and it’s stayed there. As with others, he mainly works on his bed 🙄

WeAllHaveWings · 15/04/2023 18:25

We have ikea chairs for my office and in ds's room. If you are near an ikea it is worth going in and trying them out. He is going to be in it for hours once he gets into studying so for comfort wheels and fully adjustable are really a must over asthetics.

One of mine has a kitchen chair. That's what they like. The others all have various Ikea office chairs. Each child chose the one they liked (not that we allowed them to choose from the really expensive ones!) and one chose a very simple chair which has a net back and no arms. They are all swivel chairs on wheels, but the net one seems compact and unobtrusive.

Spiderysenses · 16/04/2023 00:04

They had ikea wheeled chairs, but we always ended up upgrading to gaming chairs, even though they aren't gamers. Far better support, even if they are ugly unwieldy beasts (the chairs, not the kids!). They also worked out cheaper than a lot of office chairs.

JaninaDuszejko · 16/04/2023 00:10

DD1 has a Robin Day Polo Chair (the office chair version with wheels).

SweetSakura · 16/04/2023 00:12

Office chairs.

They all study on their beds though <sigh>

I am such a hypocrite, I did an entire day's work in bed the other day Blush (in my defense I have a neurological condition that means I sometimes need to, but still !)

My dd had a desk and an office chair from middle school (both of which had been requested and picked out by her) and used neither. She mostly used the bed or the couch in the living room or the floor, or pretty much anything but the desk or fancy chair. She finally started using her desk and chair a few months ago in her last year of university.

SofiaAmes · 16/04/2023 00:15

Oh yes...desk and chair did get used for gaming.....
