Melissa and Doug do some lovely items

Latches board
Wooden doorbell house
Stacking/matching toys

Check out Amazon as they often have offers on.

NameChange30 · 15/04/2023 15:18

What's your budget?
What does he already have?

110APiccadilly · 15/04/2023 15:21

Duplo, Brio, or Playdough Wheels all have some good sets that a child that age would like I think.

If you go on Amazon and search “boy 3 present” or whichever age/gender, it brings up appropriate suggestions. Really helpful for my nieces/nephews of different ages.

Cakeandslippers · 15/04/2023 17:11

My sons favourite things are

Car mat and toy cars.
Brio.
Dolls house.

Child sized gardening tools.

NameChange30 · 15/04/2023 17:26

YY to child's gardening tools (if they have a garden?). Also, if they have a sandpit, have a nearby park with a sandpit, or live near a beach, sand toys are always good - quality bucket and spade, dump truck, set of small diggers or dinosaurs for playing in the sand.

If your budget is bigger, my suggestions would be a balance bike if he doesn't already have one (and if parents aren't getting on). The Vitus nippy is a bargain at £35. Or duplo train set (£45) https://www.zavvi.com/toys-lego/lego-duplo-my-town-steam-train-set-with-action-bricks-10874/11733100.html

Does he like dressing up? Is he into superheroes - you could get a superhero outfit or cape and mask? Does he have a doctor's set? My two have played with ours loads (given to DC1 years ago - he is now 6 and still plays with it with DC2!)

LEGO DUPLO My Town Steam Train Set with Action Bricks (10874)

getting one (not getting on! Grin)

santastolemycat · 15/04/2023 17:29

my DS is three he has got a
few board games recently and he loves playing them.
Pop up pirate and buckaroo are his favourites

NameChange30 · 15/04/2023 17:30

Ah yes Pop up pirate; it's a classic! We also have and like Hungry Hippos.

Favouritefruits · 15/04/2023 17:30

IKEA wooden play kitchen

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 15/04/2023 19:30

Playdough Barber Shop - one of best loved, most played with toys. Cheaper version

ELC space rocket - also a massive hit, long lasting toy

NameChange30 · 15/04/2023 19:56

That rocket is so cool! We have loads already but I'm getting some good ideas for DC2 (who will be 3 in September)

Newuser82 · 15/04/2023 20:41

I'd agree with playdoh, duplo, hotwheels car and track, marble run, bath foam/bath bombs, paints, chalks, paper, a costume of some kind if they are into that kind of thing, board games such as pop up pirate, orchard toys games, books, imaginext figures (my 4 year old loves them).

Newuser82 · 15/04/2023 20:41

Oh and a plane that shoots off a gun went down a storm!

NancyJoan · 15/04/2023 20:42

Stuff for the bath or garden. They both get a bit grubby/mouldy quickly, so need replacing often.

Goodoccasionallypoor · 15/04/2023 20:43

Do you know if he has an obsession? Vehicles? Dinosaurs?

Duplo and Brio were both hits with mine at that age.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 15/04/2023 20:44

There are two board games based on Bluey - one called Scavenger Hunt and one called Shadowlands. They’re really lovely “first board games”.

Goneback2school · 15/04/2023 20:44

I've 2 3 year old nephews and construction toys, duplo, cars, trains, licensed toys based off their favourite show/ movie have all been really popular with them.

Mickz · 15/04/2023 20:56

Yoto player

Mammyloveswine · 15/04/2023 20:57

What does he like?

Mammyloveswine · 15/04/2023 20:57

At 3 my youngest was octopus obsessed

MissBoomBastic · 15/04/2023 22:23

Sea dragons/ Monkeys

ShamimaBegu · 15/04/2023 23:13

Thanks everyone. So many great ideas!

I’d recommend looking at Wicked Uncle. They have boy/girl categories by age (not necessarily with all different things, before anyone cries Sexism!). I’ve found it helpful.

However my Gds at that age was delighted with a remote control robot.
