London buses - children 9 and 10

I'm going into London today with a 9 and 10 year old - please can someone tell me how to get on a bus?!

I'm ashamed to ask this as I used to live in London (grew up there in fact) but everything changes all the time. I have contactless cards but no Oyster. I think they are free.

Can I just tap my contactless card on the oyster reader on the bus? Do they just get on with me and not need to pay? Help!!

Just tap and get on. They don’t need to pay and no one will bat an eyelid! You don’t need Oyster at all.

They're under 11 so they just get on with you. You'll be fine 🙂

Kids just get on. You tap your contactless on the yellow circle by the driver. It's one price wherever you go so you don't have to state your destination or anything. Most London buses have announcements of which stop is next, ding the bell, get off. You don't need to tap when getting off.
That's it 🙂

Just tap your contactless card and they get on with you.

See this is why I love MN. All the answers I can't find on Google. Thank you very much! 🙏
