I can't believe I've escaped the horror of this so far but my ds is 11 and has just puked all over his bed. I've spent and hour and a half cleaning everything up. There's a wash on now and piles to go in but I'm not sure how to tackle pukey cuddly toys. It's so bad I think I'll have to put them in the machine. Will that be ok?

I feel so bad for him. He's had two rubbish days with his Dad, and caught some virus from him after his Dad's been abroad for a week leaving me to do all the parenting as usual. I thought it was just a dodgy tum from the food or I wouldn't have let him go. I'm now panicking because it's my Dad's funeral this week and I have to travel there on Monday. I could murder my ex (even though logically I know it's not his fault as such).

Poor thing. Him and you! Yes, rinse them well to get 'bits' off and chuck in the machine.

FangedFrisbee · 15/04/2023 01:30

Yes washing machine on a gentle cycle. Poor ds

Nismet · 15/04/2023 02:07

Yes washing machine on a delicates setting. Scrape off solids with a table knife first if you need to. Use bio detergent.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

BillyNoM8s · 15/04/2023 02:23

I'd bin the lot, personally. Including bedding.

But yes, if you're inclined, you can machine wash cuddly toys. I'd worry more about getting them clean than preserving their integrity so I'd go hot but lower spin.

Binfluencer · 15/04/2023 02:48

Urgh been there. Chuck em all the machine on 60, they'll be fine

Sohereitissuddenly · 15/04/2023 08:18

Thanks all.. duvet is binned.. cuddly toys and duvet cover are in the machine now. I already washed duvet cover but it still smelled 😱 keeping fingers crossed for a second go. I've put some napisan in. God what a night. Poor DS. He has a bit of colour back and hasn't been sick or the other since about 4am I think.

I hope to god I don't get it. 😭😭😭 Dad's funeral is enough this week.

If the mattress smells bad you can sprinkle some baking soda on it. Leave it to settle and absorb the smell for 30min to hour, then Hoover off.

Sohereitissuddenly · 15/04/2023 08:30

Thanks Door. That's a good shout. The mattress has a cover so I took it off and I'm going to put it through the machine although it does not have a care label so hoping it's washable. I mean, it must be if it comes off?

I put cuddly toys in pillowcases to wash them

Sohereitissuddenly · 15/04/2023 08:34

Ahhh @SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows I didn't think of that. Too late. They're in and I'm hoping for the best. God I'm exhausted. What an awful night

I'm always throwing teddy's in the washing machine it's fine and then in the dryer 🤷‍♀️
They come out like new and all fluffy.

Sohereitissuddenly · 15/04/2023 10:35

@eatdrinkandbemerry load number 1 is being tumbled as I type. They've survived the wash well. Fingers crossed for the mattress cover and next batch.

I bluddy love Mumsnet. The only place to get support over sometime trivial but awful like puke-a-geddon at 4am. Thank you 🙏

If you have already washed them in hot or warm water might as well just bin them, heat sets the proteins in bodily fluids into the fabrics, always wash on cold first then hot.

Sohereitissuddenly · 17/04/2023 15:30

Aaaaand fuck. I caught it. I'm so upset. Keeping fingers crossed I'm better as quickly as DS. Funeral is 5 hours drive away on Wednesday 😭
