How many wees a day when potty training? Slight holding issue!

I posted earlier in the week about issues with potty training but it’s finally clicked. DS hasn’t had a wet accident since Tuesday.

however he seems to hold all morning til about 2pm - with me trying to coax him to drink so probably filling him up with more milk and squash than I usually would (normally just water), then from about 2pm he’s weeing a lot 6-7 times. Today since 2pm (after glugging loads of water) he’s done six weeks of varying size. He’s not dehydrated at all as it’s clear but I’m wondering if this is an issue or whether it’s just him getting used to this new rhythm as it’s not even been a week yet.

the first few days they were more evenly spread although the same number and some massive and some tiny.

tomorrow I’m just doing morning milk and water no squash as I wonder if that’s causing the repeated little wees in the afternoon and I was only using it to get him to drink for training.

has anyone else had this? I don’t want him to be uncomfortable in the morning but he seems to drink less first thing and then get thirsty and drink lots towards the end of the morning. He doesn’t actually seem uncomfortable either when not going for hours!

Once they had control my kids started holding it from 8–10 hours. They don’t seem uncomfortable at all. As they both did it I assume it’s normal. They have to hold a long time at night too, after all. I try not to make them go for wees just in case, that’s not a healthy habit. After about 6 hours I might ask them to go, or if we are going somewhere where there absolutely won’t be a toilet or in the car. In the early weeks you could ask whether he needs to go say once an hour, but also accept it if he says no. However, if they start dancing around or holding themselves then they have to go.

Thanks. He seems to hold all morning then relax into it in the afternoon. I guess it’s better than holding it all day

I think this is normal. Kids have insanely strong bladders.

That’s good to know! He’s had one wee all day at this point although it was a big’un. Drink plenty, and had a sodden pull up overnight. He went loads yesterday afternoon so I’m wondering if he’s just getting used to it all. He’s also quite emotional since we started potty training, it’s such a big thing for them to get to grips with isn’t it even though he’s adapted very well and we haven’t had a wet accident since Tuesday/Wednesday.
