I was planning to explore a new place on the Saturday of the Coronation weekend but it suddenly occured to me that shops and restaurants may close so employees can watching on TV. Anyone know if lots of places are likely to close on the Saturday?

I doubt it. It’s a bank holiday when lots of people want to be out enjoying themselves and spending money in the process. Some small independents might close if they’re particularly patriotic, but unlikely others who can get staff who don’t care about the Coronation to cover. But, why not call ahead to some places you like the look of and find out their plans.

I wouldn't have thought so. They'd be expecting a roaring trade surely. We'll be hoping for good weather and heading down to the beach. Am expecting our favourite cafe to be open

Probably not, most places will expect to be busy and make lots of money.

I will be holing up at home the entire weekend, can't stand the idea of trawling around through crowds of people to go anywhere!

People who work in shops, restaurants, pubs won't be watching tv, they'll be working. It's business as usual other than the fact Monday is a bank holiday so we'll be opening a bit later. We closed for two days of the Queen's funeral, but nothing has been mentioned about the Coronation.

I sincerely hope there'll be lots of people out and about - our local open art studio event is the Coronation weekend and to say it's put a spanner in the works is an under-statement. I'm hoping for a lot of anti-royalists / republicans wanting to get away from the TV. Not much chance in Oxfordshire - but I can hope

I am getting out of London.. going to try this newly renovated hotel called Birch!

I doubt anyone will be open on the day for other than their standard Saturday hours.

Platoo · 14/04/2023 13:48

OK that's reassuring, thanks! Fingers crossed it'll be like a normal Saturday!

Unless you’re wanting to go to the bank or similar, I assume everything will be open. It’s good for business and there will be lots of events going on.
