Vinted item stolen in transit with Evri - is there anything I can do?

I am so upset. I’ve been selling some things because my husband has been very unwell and so I am trying to make up for his loss of earnings.
I posted an item of jewellery sold on Vinted and it arrived in different packaging with the jewellery box empty. I have obviously refunded the buyer but I don’t know what, if anything, I can do about the fact I’ve lost the item and my money.
It is impossible to speak to Evri when you call them and both Vinted and Evri say it’s an issue with the other. I’ve only managed automated conversations with both of them.
I already feel a bit shit that I am having to sell stuff to start with (although it’s been a good excuse for a clearout) but now I am upset and angry that I appear to be helpless in this situation where my item has gone missing.

I wonder if a small claims court application lodged against Evri would be worth a try.

That's awful.

But I did actually have a positive experience with getting help from Evri recently when a package 'disappeared' after the first delivery attempt failed because the recipient wasn't at home.

I had the useless automated chat, but somehow managed to get it escalated to a real person, who was really helpful. She sent detailed replies explaining how she'd contacted the local depot to look for my package and see what was going on, updated me a couple of times and after a few days the parcel turned up and was delivered.

But I can't see how it's anything to do with Vinted? If you sent it by Evri, surely it was in their custody throughout the delivery process? So either the package was damaged in transit and they've repackaged it and the item has been lost, or one of their employees has stolen your item? Was the item insured?

In any case I would be pushing for a refund of the sale price from Evri (or via Vinted if you arranged postage from them - it's confusing because it partly depends on who your contract was with and I think with Vinted, they arrange the postage but I've never used it so I'm unclear as to how it works, or what seller protection Vinted offers - if your contract for delivery is with Vinted there should be T&Cs on your rights if a package is lost).

If they aren't helpful, you could try the small claims court as @LlynTegid suggests but I suppose it depends on the value of the time, because it costs money to do that and there's a risk you won't win.

You shouldn't have refunded the buyer. You should have let Vinted sort it all , as the shipping is brought through them.
They can then file a claim with shipping company and refund you both.
That's what happened to me.
But because you have refunded the buyer. Vinted won't get involved now.

Are the recipients saying the package looked as though it has been opened and re sealed? Did they sign for it as damaged? If not, evri will just claim it was fine on delivery.

Sorry I just saw it arrived in different packaging

Ariela · 14/04/2023 12:03

By 'arrived in different packaging' what does the delivery photo from Evri show? Is it delivered in their photo on the tracking as different packaging, or is it original and recipient has said 'different packaging'?

How much was it?

This is correct ^
