Smaller Family Cars

We currently have a Hyundai Tucson. I hate it. There's nothing actually wrong with it it's just too big for me personally.
I have always driven smaller cars/hatchbacks but traded it in for a bigger one when baby number 2 arrived. It's handy for when we take a caravan holiday but that's only once a year so the rest of the time it's just a hinderance. Anyway, I digress.
Can you recommend a smaller family car suitable for 2 children. Will need a reasonable boot so I can get the pram in along with a few bags of shopping.
I don't want anything 'fancy' (Mercedes, BMW etc) as don't want higher insurance costs/maintenance costs.

Ford Puma, its an amazing car with a really spacious boot. We have managed to get 2 large suitcases and 2 small suitcases in the boot. My 2 kids have plenty of room in the back and its super easy to drive and park.

Just got a VW t-roc. Absolutely love it.

I rate the Nissan Pulsar, no longer made sadly. Huge rear legroom and boot for a small-ish car, plus low tax.

I have a Vauxhall Corsa, the new model. It’s much bigger than you’d expect - more like an Astra/Focus used to be.

5 seats, 5 doors, roomy interior, fairly big boot! Feels massive compared to my previous Fiat 500.
Drives well, punchy when it needs to be, very happy with it.

Jazz is the best car.

Great boot. Loads of space for stuff.

Reliable, easy to park.

I'd drive this forever.

+1 for the Kia Venga. It's a really well-considered package; compact, but plenty of space. Nice and airy inside, lots of helpful features. The values of them aren't bad these days, because they're not an SUV so considered to be unfashionable.

Kia Soul would also be worth a look. A bit more squared-off design-wise than a Venga, but a similar size and still helpfully smaller than a Tuscon.

Another option would be a Citroen C3 Picasso. Similar size and design concept to the Kia Soul. A couple of my parents' friends have one and both have been very happy with it.

Another vote for the mazda 3 - ours is 17 and still going strong!

Loved my VW Polo when I had it. Used to put pram and everything needed for a weekend away in the boot. Bought an armchair at TK Maxx once, put the back seats down and put it in the boot.

Honda Jazz. It's very comfy and easy to drive, reliable and it's like a TARDIS with how roomy it feels inside.
