Anyone know how long it takes for a tax code to get sorted with a new employer?

you can use this link Starter checklist for PAYE - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

and answer the questions, it gives you a print out to give to your new employer in the absence of a P45

Yip I did this already thanks so much though x

the only other thing I can think of is you didn’t give them your NI number?

Have you checked your online HMRC tax account?

I did this morning and it saying something like it was to be decided ( not how it was worded but something to that affect)

Very annoying fir you.

last year we were looking to change someone’s company car. I used my payroll record to work out the P11D value and accidentally didn’t delete it off and it was submitted as though I had a company car so I was taxed!

HMRC didn’t change it until I submitted my self assessment the next year evn though we wrote to them.

I started a new job in May and I’ve been n an emergency tax code, tried calling HMRC a couple of times but the waiting times are ridiculous and I’ve had to hang up because I’ve had other stuff to do.

Theyve had my P45, god knows what’s going on 😫

Does anyone know, when they do sort it can I get a rebate through automatically when it’s sorted or do you have to wait until the end of the tax year? I could really do with the money back!

As long as you aren't on a w1/M1 tax code, then it should be fine through payroll automatically as soon as it gets updated.

If you are on a w1/M1 code then I suspect you'll have to wait till the end of the financial year. Let's hope that's not the case for you.

Done* through payroll.

Keep on with HMRC.
Once mine was (finally) sorted, all the overpaid tax came in the next payslip.
But it took 3 months to get HMRC to send the right notification to payroll (and/or payroll to act on it).
