Child Passport Renewals - how long?

Anyone waiting on a passport and if so, how long? Son’s passport runs out mid of January 2024 - and just realised a place we are going end of July this year needs six months left - so we will miss it by a few days. Trying to work out if we renew now (but need a passport end of May) or renew it after we get back from France on 1 June… and then hope it only takes 7 weeks to get a new one

Been checking for Fast Track but can’t book an appointment because of the strikes…

I ordered a renewal for DD on 17th March and it took just over 2 weeks to be delivered, but that was just before the strikes started

My DS first passport took about 2 weeks. DH renewal took about 3 weeks.

This was about 2 months ago.

Thanks very much. I think I will wait until early June and then keep everything crossed.

DD's only took.4 weeks and that was with a few days delay with the co signing. This was before the strikes (submitted first week of March)

I'm hoping someone comes along and tells us what it's like now mid strike

Sanch1 · 14/04/2023 10:15

In December our renewals took about 10 days.

I’ve just put 2 x child renewals in this week. They run in out Nov but we have a hol in august that requires 3 months left. On return they would have 3 months 5 days left so I wasn’t sure what to do! I posted together but it’s only saying 1 has arrived today 😬. I will keep you updated- the advice on news was to allow 10weeks

whoknows1230 · 14/04/2023 10:26

I applied for DD’s renewal towards the end of March and it was returned this week. It took 16 days from posting the old passport to receiving the new one.

DD's renewal took about 10 days -mid-March. Ds's passport, sent 2 days after DD's, haven't heard anything since. It's still waiting to be examined apparently. But it went to a different office to be done.

We sent one in just before Easter and got it back in about 10 days.

ChickpeaPie · 14/04/2023 10:48

10 days in January

CupidStunt24 · 14/04/2023 10:50

I applied for both of my sons first passports in the middle of March, they took 10 days.

ImAGoodPerson · 14/04/2023 10:50

Ours took about a week/10 days last month. I imagine in June it will be a lot busier when everyone checks their passports too late and need to renew urgently.

Just an update- I have one passport back ( took 2 weeks) and atdxt to say the other has been printed. So relieved!

Yes, turnaround seems OK currently.
My adult lost/renewal took about 2-3 weeks.
Child's new application took 3 weeks. Both done with digital photos & a code.
Lots of updates via text & emails explaining where it was in the process. Very good & efficient service.
