are you sure it's not a beetle?

Erm it's got 8 legs!

Do you have a clear picture op? It looks a bit like an orb weaver spider, although it's body seems slightly more rectangular than usual.

or 6 legs and two of those wavey antenna things at the front of a beetle

I'm visually impaired though so I'm not sure why I tried guessing 😂

What size is it? If the body is the length of your thumbnail and greyish, we have them in the garden. They occasionally get I to the house. Not sure what type....🤔....off to search....

queenofthebongo · 13/04/2023 11:36

Is it a stone spider?

pippapipps · 13/04/2023 13:24

That could be a woodlouse spider. I always come on these threads because I found one once and it shook me and I'm not usually scared of spiders and will pick them up.

I heard this thing's legs actually tapping on the wall. I ran into the kitchen to get a glass and a card to trap it because there was no way I dared pick it up. I got back about 2 minutes later and it was gone.

It was so distinctive looking - reddish with a hard shell that I'd never seen before and found this https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/trees-woods-and-wildlife/animals/spiders-and-harvestmen/woodlouse-spider/

I think it came in on the Christmas tree. I was nervous that it would lay eggs but never saw it again. It's been 10 years, so I think I'm safe. Maybe my cat got it. He liked eating spiders and woodlice too. They're not dangerous but they can give a painful bite but he could have handled that.

It’s impossible to say from your photo - too blurry unfortunately. It looks like it could be a walnut orb weaver but you wouldn’t normally find them in houses and they’re mostly still tiny babies at this time of year! It could be a lace weaver - they have a marking somewhat like that on the abdomen and you do find them in houses. They are quite fast but not very big. But it’s not possible to say without a clearer picture.

Looks like a beetle to me, those look like antennae at the front.

I've seen loads similar, just scoop them up on paper and throw them out.
