Shared ownership on disability benefits?

Lunanova96 · 12/04/2023 21:40

Does anyone know if I would be able to do shared ownership?

my partner works full time,
and I receive universal credit as I am disabled, I get limited capability for work and work related activity, and I also get pip
i just had a baby as well.

I am not sure if the benefits I receive count towards the household income?

thanks in advance ❤️

how would you pay the mortgage?

Would my partner be able to pay the mortgage side and I pay the rent side with UC? My UC pays my side of the rent in my house currently

If you're moving in together his income would be factored in, as you're a couple, even with limited capability for work. Your pip wouldn't be affected at all, though.

Your benefits would be affected if you live with him.

Not sure about shared ownership but benefits don't stop you from having a mortgage however not all lenders will. I'm with barclays bank, I originally tried a broker but he couldn't find anything so went direct. I'm on pip, esa and uc.

That's not how the system works. If you live together, your combined income will be taken into account for UC and if he works full time, you may not qualify at all. I'm assuming you're not living together at present?

Yes we live together now my UC is as a couple

No, they wouldn't do that.

backawayfatty1 · 12/04/2023 22:54

Yes UC does pay the rent side of a shared equity property. It works the same as now as a renter. They wouldn't pay the mortgage side and you would get the lower rate work allowance for your partner

Also it depends on the mortgage provider some don't count benefits as it's not a graunteed income, it could stop at any time.
