Ill with kids at home

I have a horrible stomach bug. I'm cold, shivery, on the toilet every 20 mins, stomach cramps and just generally feel like hell.

I have a 4 year old and a nearly 2 year old. My husband was home this morning so wasn't so bad, and 2 year old has been asleep for last 2 hours but please can I have some ideas of how to entertain them this afternoon? I have no energy and could cry with how awful I feel. Our whole Easter holidays have been blighted with illness and I just am so fecking miserable and still feel guilty that I just want to put the TV on for them and lie, sobbing, under a blanket until bedtime 🙈🙈

They both had it last week so we have already had 3-4 days in front of the TV when they were ill so the mum guilt is even worse!

Just put the TV on.

Just put the TV on and let them watch as much as they want. Do what you need to do until DH gets home and can take over.

I am a lone parent so deal with all sickness alone with my kids, this is what tv and ipads are for don’t get why people are so against them they have there place!

Would the 2yo copy dance moves on the TV (if it can get YouTube?) Cosmic Yoga is a good one... stories with Yoga moves.

Just put a disney film on and order a pizza! No one is judging you except you xx dont be so hard on yourself.

AdoraBell · 12/04/2023 14:15

Definitely TV or iPad. Hope you feel better soon.

Mum guilt? What's that!
Just put the tv on. No one will die. You don't even have to tell anyone.
Hope you feel better soon.

In this scenario, I'd just put the tv on and rest! Don't feel guilty, its so hard looking after kids when you're unwell. Hope you feel better soon!

CremeEggThief · 12/04/2023 14:16

You don't worry about entertaining kids when you're that ill, OP. I hope you feel better soon.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 12/04/2023 14:17

I don't understand why you'd feel guilty about putting the TV on when you're unwell.

TheRookie · 12/04/2023 14:26

It's totally unreasonable to feel guilty I know that but because they were ill last week, and then I'm ill this week, we just haven't done anything fun this holiday and I hate the thought of them missing out.

Definitely puts it in perspective though, need to rest and stop overthinking!

Definitely TV. We had Covid over Easter and my four year old watched TV literally all day. The Octonauts films on Netflix were particularly popular!

Frosty1000 · 12/04/2023 15:47

Deffo TV, you need to look after yourself and get better. It's not like it's everyday so don't feel guilty. I second the octonauts movies as they are a great hit with us. Get better soon.

Well in some absolute freak sequence of events, both kids played so nicely together with their toys in their room, with no TV, for 2.5 hours and never argued once, minimum input from me so I lay watching them and chatting from the bed! What an absolute treat. I feel much better now, mentally anyway maybe not so much physically 🤣

Come downstairs now to stick some fish fingers and chips in the oven, and put Blippi on! 2.5 hours until bedtime 😁

Good to hear!

Maybe think of something nice to do next weekend and pretend it's Easter then instead. The weather might even be ok!
