Who should pay what?

I am entitled to cheap travel tickets for me and 3 others. The cost is significantly less than a normal ticket for the same journey. Think £5 return instead of a £30 return. However, there is 5 of us in total, one of whom was going to leave our scheduled activity early so wouldn’t be able to have one of my tickets anyway due to the terms which state anyone with a cheap ticket must travel with me. What is fair here? Adding up the total travel for all 5 and dividing by 5 so would likely work out £10 per person instead of £5 for 4 people and £30 for the one leaving early or is it just tough for the one who isn’t staying? I am erring towards adding up complete cost and dividing total by 5 but wondered what others would do? Or do I think it’s a work benefit of mine which I should happily use without guilt and other peoples travel are not my problem?

I would add up and split by 5, yes it's a work benefit but you're still benefitting and think it's the nicest thing to do x

Split it by 5.
No point in you not getting another 3 cheap tickets just because there are 5 in total.
If you want to be a little bit selfish then pay for yours at £5 and the other 4 can split the £45 between them as it's your benefit...but then for the sake of a fiver it's not really worth it is it?

A similar situation is our parking permits.. Dh and I can get 2 for 20. Then the rates go up. Adult dc get one each (3). We add up all permits needed and split the costs equally. So we pay 33 each instead of 20 between us! You want your friends to travel/share trip as I want dc to visit!

Good! Thanks those who’ve replied. I don’t know why I was doubting my initial thoughts - will split total travel bill by 5.

Add up all, divide by 5. Your friends may even offer to add up all 5 and divide amongst themselves apart from your £5 so you don't have to pay more than your work pass gets you.

Your friends are still getting a bargain ticket op!

@Eggseggseverywhere I think that was my doubt - I’ve ‘implied’ £5 tickets but they’re actually going to cost £10 but that’s still £20 less then the commercial rate!
