Garden furniture and cushions

Sorry if this is in the wrong place but wasn't sure where to put it.

I have just bought my first decent set of garden furniture which has cushions, what I am wondering is, where do you keep them when you are not using the furniture? I have bought covers for the actual furniture but not sure if through the summer to leave cushions on under the covers (obviously wouldn't leave them on during the winter). I still have to find a place to where to put them for the winter!!

Many thanks

We keep them in the garage in a cupboard. I think if you leave them out under a cover it’ll be a faff having to put the cover on and off all the time. It’s a faff putting them away though to be fair, but they do stay clean and dry.

Also, I wouldn’t trust them to be water tight but IKEA dimpa bags are the perfect size for 3 cushions and a fraction of the price of the bags designed for garden furniture if you’ve got a place to store them.

We bought a cover for our furniture that's waterproof and has drawstring ties at the bottom so in summer it's nice and secure, the cushions are fine under this.
For winter we bought one of the big plastic storage boxes and we pop them in there with a padlock on just to make sure the lid stays down. This is also handy for chucking a couple of blankets in too.

They stay on the furniture under the cover during summer, takes minutes to whip the cover off in the morning, then we just stick that in the shed so it's to hand if it starts raining! We keep the cushions in storage bags in the loft during winter.

WashAsDelicates · 11/04/2023 17:19

Our cushions are stashed in the loft once we cover the furniture for the winter. In the summer, we used to leave the cushions on the furniture and covered the whole lot with the winter cover every night or if rain was forecast. We now keep a gazebo up from summer half term to autumn half term, and put all the garden furniture under it, cushions and all, and keep the winter cover in the loft.

Put cushions in the shed. We have a cover but it’s not fully waterproof.

we put the wicker furniture and cushions in the shed for winter. have plastic chairs out just for winter. when the wicker furniture is out for the summer we throw covers on if it rains.

We put a cover over the whole thing, unless it is forecast to be super wet and then they go into the garage where they spend the winter.

My in-laws kept the bags they were delivered in and the cushions are returned to these (labelled) bags each time they are used. It’s a faff but they have lasted brilliantly! It should be a breathable bag though, not just plastic (I think).

We use these and then they go in the loft over winter.

What garden storage is good for cushions if you don't have a garage, shed or access to a loft?

Ilovemyshoppingtrolley · 12/04/2023 14:26

I don't have loft storage unfortunately, I do have a garage and would store the cushions in there during the winter but will be a pain to store the cushions in there during the summer when used during the week. Thats why I was wondering if they could be left on the furniture with the cover. (Only for the summer)

Thanks

You can leave them on in the summer with a cover over. Unfortunately we forgot ours last year and some have some slight mildew on which we are trying to remove.

youhavenoidea123 · 12/04/2023 14:58

What covers do you recommend to keep on in the summer. I worry about them not being waterproof. This is our first summer with garden furniture with cushions.

TheNoodlesIncident · 12/04/2023 16:22

@Davros Our cushions are stored in my shed over winter but we have Keter garden storage boxes that we keep them in during the summer. I use a plastic twist tie to hold them shut but a padlock would be more secure.

We have two in our side return, they store so much stuff and are properly waterproof (although not spider proof).

Davros · 12/04/2023 18:47

Thanks so much TheNoodlesIncident, I'll look for those
